    I second the sun umbrella. I used the Gossamer Gear one on the Lana in May and it worked great. (I still carried a hat for in town, however) I’ve tried all sorts of hats, but none is the best of all! Buen Camino.

    You can take the Cercanias C10 or C1 commuter train from the airport to Chamartin directly and either get euros at an ATM at the airport or there are 4 banks just outside the south end of Chamartin. I’m going to Leon from Madrid in September and doing the same thing myself.
