Hi. I know this does not answer your question, but just wanted to let you know I'll be starting out a day behind you and finishing up at the same time. I'm a newbie too. I hope our paths cross. :)

if you’re not tired of looking at packing lists anyone want to chime in on newbie list for april-june? (frances)

I've had a pair of EVA Birkenstocks that I bought in Berlin four years ago that are still in decent shape after thousands of miles. So durability isn't an issue. Support and foot stability while hiking, however, are important - which is why I'm not taking a new pair of EVA Birks on my Camino...

How much route planning is actually needed?

Footwear can certainly be a problem, if you have to buy it online. When I returned from my last camino I bought a new pair of EVA Birkenstock sandals, identical in size and model to those which I had just worn out, according to the online information. They turned out to be sized according to...

    2nd pair of shoes

I buy men’s when the style I want is in a narrow. It’s not like the women’s ones are significantly more feminine. 😆 I go by Birkenstock’s Euro sizing to get the right size.

    2nd pair of shoes

My favorites for my extra pair in my pack... Birkenstock clone, EVA foam, 6.6 oz per pair (women's size 7, 3.3 oz per sandal), 38 colors and patterns, $20 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CVB26Q5/?tag=casaivar02-20

    2nd pair of shoes

I wear Birkenstock eva's for my second shoes while on camino, city footwear. They used to be comfortable. But Birkenstock resized the women's sandals: much narrower, then a shoe store advertised them for online purchase as having the former size. When I received the box, the new, narrower sizing...

    2nd pair of shoes

It's interesting how our feet are all different. I like the look of Birkenstocks, but I am rather flat footed so their hard, preformed arches absolutely "kill" my feet, and I am not exaggerating.😉

    2nd pair of shoes

I’m reconciled to socks under Birkenstock EVAs in the evening. If it’s a fashion statement, it’s not a good one. My footware was once criticised by a young German peregrina; but as she was wearing a pink neon tiger skin onesie (with head and ears), at the time I didn’t take it too badly.

Long Post - My Packing Considerations

...nearly a pound more than the Birks but are also more comfortable and supportive over long distances while carrying a pack, which would make them a good alternative when I want a break from walking days with my Altra Olympuses. A search for EVA Birkenstocks here will turn up many other opinions!

Long Post - My Packing Considerations

Are the comfortable enough you could use them as a back up walking shoe?

EVA Birkenstocks are also worth checking out. My US 11/E 44 pair weighs 260g. https://www.birkenstock.com/us/arizona-eva/arizona-eva-eva-0-eva-u_6774.html

Suggestions for Lightening my Backpack for a 6-day Camino Walk

...them for such a short walk, but it is one of those cases where a longer Camino might justify more gear. As for evening footwear, my EVA Birkenstocks do duty in the shower and while lounging around the albergue. If I leave the albergue, I put on my hiking shoes/boots, which are nice and...

Best way to deal with plantar fascitis and best shoes to wear

As above: Seek professional help and advice. Which is what I did when I came back from my first long camino with PF and could hardly walk for the first month I was home. My GP was an ardent walker herself and gave me two pieces of advice I still follow: Stretch your heel over an edge like a step...

What not to take? And what to not forget?

Hi Lhollo, what a hugely informative and helpful thread this is and thank you for your detailed contribution. I am interested in your choice of the Gossamer Gear G4-20 as your backpack. I have bought the G4-20 for my CF starting mid April’22. Most of my multi-day hikes in Australia have...

What not to take? And what to not forget?

One thing I've not seen anyone else mention; I had silk longjohns for May and October trips. Loved them. Light, dry easily. kept me warm without extra weight out on top. I feel chilly when others may not and this works for me at home here in the Pacific Northwest also.

What not to take? And what to not forget?

...saw it in shops along the Camino. Where are other forum members finding their Smart Water bottles?! 6. Sandals - I swear by my EVA Birkenstocks. They’re super light, and comfortable enough to wear around town as well as around showers and albergues etc. I wear them when my walking shoes need...

LIVE from the Camino My Camino started Sept 8, 2021

LOVE LOVE LOVE my EVAs. On my 9th pair; I often leave them in a country after a hundred miles on them. There is plenty of wear left on them but housekeepers love them as a "gift" with a tip. One housekeeper followed me out of my hotel in Poland to thank me.

The often argued point about waterproof footwear is that if you encounter heavy rain or in any other way get waterproof shoes wet on the inside, they won’t easily dry out. But if you know your footwear well in advance, that’s a good start? In case it helps, I tried every shoe on the planet...
