Walking dress recommendations?

Porto to Santiago (2020)
Hi fellow travelers, just day dreaming of future caminos and trips to Europe.

Any one have good recommendations for dresses? Ideally knee length (maybe longer), with sleeves.
It'll be cool if it could multitask, walking/exploring cities/sleeping?

Thanks

Hi! Ladyhike has some great dresses, i have done caminos in them and they worked great for me. i have also used the macabi skirts on caminos and loves those too. both were easy to hand wash, dried quickly. these brands/designs were created by women who hike and thru-hike so they understand what works :)

i pretty much only hike in skirts/dresses now even when doing hikes at home, i find them much more comfortable.

I have been walking in a knee-length skirt, with a long skirt for town in the evening or changing at the beach. I also have a pair of pants for cold days, rain, bugs or grass. I would pick a skirt over a dress because the shirts are interchangeable.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Jolly Gear makes great hiking shirts (small business created by a through hiker wanting colorful and functional hiking clothes) and they’ve recently added a dress to their catalog. I haven’t tried it but I love their shirts:

I can recommend this hiking skirt for an overnighter but, for a night out, not so much. Each of its six pockets can hold a copy of Brierley’s Camino guide.

Lightheart gear has dresses also. And tents.

Title Nine has excellent, lightweight “active dresses”, many with built in bras! I love them and have taken one on each of my Caminos. I wear for evening dinner or walking around, then almost always just sleep in it too. So comfy and Fabulous to just feel fresh and out of my pants and shorts.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
I second the recommendation for Purple Rain skirts, dresses, and kilts. I wore my Purple Rain skirt while walking the Norte last year and it was perfect! Big, useful pockets and a comfortable fit. Highly recommend.
Purple Rain Skirts

'Purple rain ' has hiking skirts, dresses, and kilts( which convert to shorts if needed). I have 2 kilts and really love them
Another vote for Purple Rain Adventure Skirts! I have one of their skirts and one of their dresses. I’m 5’9 and the skirts come to top of my knees. They’re super lightweight and look nice. They have 4 pockets (one over the other on each hip).

Do you have chafing issues with your thighs. I always wear protective shorts for longer walks.

The length of the skirt on you will partially depend on the width of your hips! I found my Purple Rain skirt to be shorter than expected, unfortunately.

This thread offers a terrific list of resources! However, only Macabi skirts meets my needs as they are available in a long length, have large pockets, and are light and quick dry. They are very well made and last for many years.

I have a few hiking skirts and they all come with built-in very lightweight shorts underneath, which I appreciate. I usually bring one on the Camino for warm days.

I always cut those shorts out of these types of skorts. I prefer to wear a separate pair of running shorts underneath.
Not me; it is just more unneeded layering imo, when the meshy shorts underneath are nearly weightless and not bulky. I wouldn't bother to bring the skirt without it. I would then prefer to just use hiking shorts, which I have done before.

Hi may I ask more about the Macabi skirt ? What color did you have ? How accurate are the colors shown on the site? Is the skirt see-through? Thanks

I can answer that last question, no, they are definitely not see-through 🙂

I have two knee-length Macabi skirts. One is black and one is charcoal grey. I thought the colour shown on the website was accurate. They are not see through.

I wore my grey one every day on my camino in April-May 2024 and I loved hiking in it. I ❤️ my Macabi skirts.

HI,
like hiking cat said, the skirts are not see through...I am 5'6" and bought the skirt in small/short (not the knee length skirt) and it came mid-calf on me. I have grey and the khaki color. I wore them for the Camino Portuguese from Lisbon and on the Via Francigena last year. Being able to clip them up on the sides during hot days and then unclip them when going in to churches, etc. allowed for cooler walks and modesty. Love these skirts and plan on wearing them for my camino in France next year...they have great pockets and a pocket inside a pocket that has a zipper which is great for keeping a few things like euro, don't have to dig through the pack every time I need a coffee :)
