Back from another ride through corn and soy. Fields are changing from green to yellow to brown. I finally went through a small town where there were actually people (old ladies like me) sitting outside having lunch. I had a 40 minute wait at a RR crossing while the tie-replacing machine went through, but it was a beautiful day so no problem! By my calculations I got within two miles of my age— maybe next week.
Are you recording your trips with the Wikiloc app? How's it going? If you need help start another thread (Step 2).Back from another ride through corn and soy.
Beautiful house Laurie, what a charmer. Is it well known?

Gosh! And about ten km of this unfortunately. We throw away everything and anything. I too am guilty. I feel ashamed.
Love these pictures. One of my goals is to visit the Lake District. I believe the author/illustrator Beatrix Potter is credited with saving a lot of this beautiful countryside from developers. I’ve seen Miss Potter, the movie based on her life, but do you know of good book I can read about it?Hail, rain or snow ..people in the Lake District walk!
This was our day although it was not raining when we started and we had intended to walk up the Grisdale valley and onto Helvellyn via the ridge
Misty at first and then the rain came down as we got to within spitting distance of Grisdale lake and decided to come back on the other side
The lake is somewhere under the mist!
It rained...it poured...it was torrential
A wonderful walk though!
Any walk here is wonderfulView attachment 84014View attachment 84015View attachment 84016View attachment 84017
Yep, landfill, collected by the Local Council.Gosh!
Is this fly tipping?
Who picks this up or is it just left there ....looks like a residential street
Do we really need so much"stuff"?
On our one trip to the UK we skipped London and landed in Manchester to go to (among other places) the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. We loved it.One of my goals is to visit the Lake District.
To me it looks like it was a day for special pickup of anything. The grill interested me. We picked up one from a neighbor for free that unfortunately did not work too well. Peg ended up wheeling one home in poor condition a quarter mile away on trash day but the owner said it worked. I was able to swap parts to get a completely free grill that works and has three propane tanks.Yep, landfill, collected by the Local Council.
I've been to England twice, didn't skip London, but preferred other areas more...Cotswolds, various abbeys, and the SE coast. The Lakes region has intrigued me and hope I have opportunity to spend time there one day.On our one trip to the UK we skipped London and landed in Manchester to go to (among other places) the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Lovely to be back... dreaming of Caminos... facemasks from Ivar best I can do and closest I can get at the moment...Wonderful to hear from you again @Wokabaut_Meri
A pleasure awaiting me!After the naturewalk I had lunch in the oldest town in Belgium named Tongeren.
Had a stroll through the Beguinage.
Just for interest: the first photo opened when I clicked download and chose the option to view. This is on my ipad. I generally find that works on MacBook as well. Lovely photos into he bargain!Walk at naturereserve De Kevie. No rain and even the sun came out. Shall have to resize some pics, they seem too big to upload.

This is such a delightful experience, to be immersed in the reality of your photo, Sabine! Thank you.Another try..
I saw six photos...all lovely. Living in America, to walk in Tongeren would almost seem like being on a camino, as "part" of what I love are the ancient structures and cultural differences. It sometimes happens when uploading from my phone. Ah well, at least three pics came through...

Thanks, Sabine...it looks like there is much to see and do!Always welcome Chris! If and when Covid will let us.

Gorgeous cloud and light!!Warmly welcome, @Wokabaut_Meri, so good to have you back!
Yesterday as I was walking the clouds were building...though it didn't start to rain until several hours later.
I had to stop in mid walk to go in and get my camera - the backlight was really pretty amazing.Gorgeous cloud and light!!
Thank you for this, Annette. i hope to visit the Lake District as soon as I’m able. It‘s not far from Nottingham, close by my grandfather’s old stomping grounds, which I need to revisit as I lost all my photos from that trip (including pictures of newfound relatives). I also want to have lunch again at Nottingham’s Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which claims to be the oldest inn in England.Hi Icacos,
Yes it is indeed a wonderful and beautiful place
A place of peace and tranquility in the fells and the valleys
There is a museum of Beatrix Potter in Windermere but we've never visited it....those fells were calling us loud and clear!
I haven't read any of BP books but I did check on Amazon and a few do sound interesting..
The Real Beatrix potter by Nadia Cohen
Who was Beatrix Potter by Sarah Fabiny
Beatrix Potter letters by Judy Taylor ....over 400 of them!
Thank heavens she did do so much as a conservationist for the Lakes ......a pioneer really.
She left 14 farms and 4000 acres to the National Trust
Re The Lake District.......there are no actual lakes there apart from one........Bassenthwaite lake!!
All the others such as Windemere, Conisten,Buttermere are all called Mears, Tarns and Waters ...and they are 21 of them I think.
I do so hope that you will get to see this wonderful place sometime soon ...don't forget the boots...and rain gear!
And maybe in spring, when Wordsworths daffodils are in bloom
A beautiful shot of the avatar sculpture, SabineBit fed up sitting inside so from my village to the maintown and back. With a stop at my avatar and local pub. Rolling hills!
Got rain on the way home.
I agree...stunning!A beautiful shot of the avatar sculpture, Sabine
Rufus, I love that spider web! So delicate like a beautiful piece of tatting. So I decided to walk another short leg of my camino route from home in Ireland - and having completed the Cavan Way I have moved onto the connecting Leitrim Way - but I was walking a lane just above fog in the valley at the lake below and above me just a little mist - lovely autumn morning!

I am happy that they build those steps at the end, it was rather difficult for us elderly people to walk up or down there.
Goodness Kirkie,I wish! Today is truly miserable. Dangerous in France and Italy..with some deaths and many missing as a result of floods...View attachment 84422
TheatregielBack to work for a few weeks so my walks these days are early morning - just before and after sunrise. Fresh autumn air, fog and mist from the river, Dew bejeweled spider webs and foliage. A favourite time of year.

These are some of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen
Ever think about exhibiting them to the wider public?

I have not started that yet, mainly because I need the phone battery to get me from point A to point B and home (just using google maps). These trips take me about 8-9 hours total including rests and stops, and yesterday I got home with just a smidgen of power to spare. No recorded trails to follow, so I figure that I shouldn’t add the battery usage that would come with recording my own trail, though I have thought that would be fun to do. I am making slow progress on wikiloc, though, having agreed that that is the app for me to go with.
Gorgeous photos and fall colour! That perfect wasp nest isWe go out for a short walk each day. Usually one of five commonly done ones. Nothing really special about any but with the change of the seasons I wanted to post some pictures that I recently took on these walks.

Is that sign indicating that adults can't walk with children on the road? Or pedestrians are not allowed on the road because it is for bicyclists only?Shortish too here. Aside from two cyclists all on my own.
Asphalted Roman road...

After a few overcast rainy days, this morning dawned beautifully. A walk along my usual favourite morning paths and a photo of the 120 year old Steves farmhouse - the family who my village is named after. Descendants of the original family still live in the house and farm on the land along the tidal flats. They raise Belted Galloway cattle and grow fruits and vegetables for a heritage seed program that preserves heirloom and endangered seeds, fruits, grains and herbs. A very special place that has somehow survived in the middle of encroaching urban development.

What a beautiful walk. I haven’t been to Canada (yet) - these pics conjure calming & peaceful thoughts. I also love to see ‘belted cattle ‘. I see them here on occasion in Oz also. After a few overcast rainy days, this morning dawned beautifully. Sabine, I hope you have spent a night in one of those tree tents. Looks relaxing. If they were here in the US, they would soon be vandalized or otherwise mistreated and would probably have a smell of urine — do these have security cameras, or do they just trust people to treat them with care?Another 9k.with our walking group.
