    Viskarret-Guerendiain

There is a bar there - Bar Juan. No idea of hours. These are pics from Yelp. I took a taxi from there down to Zubiri because I didn’t want to do that hideous descent. Once was enough.

    Taxi from Astorga to Foncebadón

True, but still worth trying to negotiate

    Taxi from Astorga to Foncebadón

Astorga, being a large city, will certainly have a good supply of taxis. Astorga, being a relatively large place, will certainly have a good supply of taxis. Rome2Rio lists the fare at $65-80. That seems rather excessive for a 17 mile ride. You might be able to negotiate. Maybe the hotel...

    Public transportation availability

This is the train schedule from Rome2rio. I would assume you could also hire a taxi. https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Bayonne-France/Donostia-San-Sebasti%C3%A1n#r/Train

    Water spouts

For the most part, yes. Watch for the words “potable” (safe to drink) and “no potable” (unsafe to drink). An afterthought. You might also see “agua tratada” (treated water) and “agua no tratada” (untreated water). Untreated doesn’t AUTOMATICALLY mean UNSAFE, so it depends upon your personal...

    Bus from Pamplona to Roncesvalles?

Why, then, do they list 5 stops? I’ve been on it 3/4 times. I honestly can’t remember if anyone got off along the way.

    Bus from Pamplona to Roncesvalles?

The ALSA bus from Pamplona to SJPP makes a stop in Roncesvalles. Departs daily at 12:00. Use St. Jean as the destination and it lists the 5 intermediate stops. Website: Alsa.com

Is the albergue at San Anton open?

Yes, that was the story I saw too. The whole complex was off limits. I figured it would be closed for a good while.

Is the albergue at San Anton open?

People have posted saying that it has reopened and that it wasn’t closed for long. Maybe it’s changed again. I don’t know. I tried to find the post, but couldn’t. It was one of the FB groups. She specifically said it had reopened and a traveling pilgrim priest said Mass.

    Accommodation

Gronze.com shows availability. Cheapest is Downtown River Hostal, which is a nice place.

    Suggested accommodations

I had to take a taxi from Viana to Logroño because I was wiped out. But my pack and bed were in Logroño. So it was either keep walking and die, or take a taxi. The taxi won. I tended to avoid intermediate stops because there is little to see or do in many of the tinier towns. Terradillos de...

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

As you exit the Pilgrim Office, turn left. At the corner turn right and start up the STEEP hill leading to San Francisco Church. The driveway into the cafeteria building is near the top on the right. I am sending you a message regarding the “miracle” topic.

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

Yes. Highly recommended. I discovered it while working at the Pilgrim Office and became a regular. Mid day hours and closed weekends. But HOW I hated that HILL.

Botafumeiro used at today's pilgrim mass

Using “she” in English for inanimate objects is actually quite common, especially for cars and boats. But it extends to other, often mechanical, items as well. I personally don’t think I do it, but it doesn’t really make me want to grit my teeth.
