Camino Portuguese -Hostel near Porto Airport

Hi Ken, Porto is a wonderful city. We were there for 4 days before we started our camino from Valença in June. Be prepared to do a lot of walking in Porto. Or make use of Bolt or Uber for transport. It is not expensive. We stayed in the Fontainhas/Ribeira area close enough to explore the city...

    Schengen visa

Hi We did our first camino in June 2024. We already booked for June/ July 2025. We need a Shengen Visa to travel to Spain. The visa is only valid for 90 days. The visa application is very expensive. Is there a way to get an extended visa? As I said, very expensive to apply each year.

8-day 115KM Camino at a slower pace with 1 rest day ( from Valenca)

Yes shorter days instead of a rest day. From Tui we walked 8 days. We enjoyed the journey, stopped at many bars, had lots of coffee. We did not rush. Take the alternative route into Porrino. Tui to Porrino is a beautiful way. It is a long stretch and it was a long walk into Porrino to reach our...

What ailments to expect after many days of walking?

The camino is a pilgrimage. A pilgrimage is a journey. Take it slow on your journey. Expect less injuries. Buen Camino

Camino Ingles or Frances - last 100 km?

We pre-booked. We will also pre-book for our camino in July 2025. It takes time to plan the route. I booked, cancelled, recalculated, booked again. One of the toughest days was a 10km from Padron to our pension. It was a lot of tar/asphalt and it was very hot. We started too late and had too...

Camino Ingles or Frances - last 100 km?

You do not have to stick with the stages people/apps/books recommend. Make your own stages. Freedom of walking a camino! When we did the Portuguese from Valença we had short stages of about10km and long stages about 20km. We decided to do average 15km stages next year. No more. It is not a...

What ailments to expect after many days of walking?

I had no blisters but on day three I developed a rash on my legs (vasculites). I had to walk with my white flight socks which helped a lot. It looked odd but no one cared. The ball of my foot also became very sore. But every morning you wake up with new feet and new legs. Taking my shoes off...

    When to rent accommodation?

You could perhaps walk from Valença to Santiago. On your Compostela it will show 124km. Valença is a very interesting place. We prefered to walk shorter distances per day rather than taking a rest day. We booked in advance through booking.com and also booked directly through websites. Choose the...

    Starting from Sarria ...or not

How was the Ingles different fom the others? (Apart from being less crowded). I have looked at some YouTube videos and there seem to be a lot of asphalt/ tar walking on the Ingles.

    Starting from Sarria ...or not

Ending in Santiago is very special for a first camino so I do think they would want that. I would definitely stay 2 nights in Santiago this time. In June we only stayed one night and the last day to Santiago seemed much further and exhausting than expected so we were too tired to explore the...

I did some research. Seems like a lot of asphalt/tar walking. Your experience with the paths?

    Starting from Sarria ...or not

Yes tips please! We only have the Portuguese from Valença to compare it with. From Tui we did it in 8 days. We enjoyed our pace. Never started before 7:30 - 8:00 and stopped at many bars for cafe con leche along the way. If we decide on the Ingles we will do it in 7 or perhaps 8 days. We need...

Yes it seems to be a much quieter way. Is Madrid to Ferrol the way to go by train/bus?

    Starting from Sarria ...or not

Thank you. Which is the best way to get to Sarria? From Madrid or from Porto? Madrid is further away but many people seem to use that route.

We walked it in 9 days. Much longer than the average peregrino but it was our way. Some days we walked 16 - 20km...

We started our camino from Valença and walked over the border on our first day. 124km from Valença to Santiago de Compostela. We walked with all our luggage across...
