Travel to Tui

good morning perrigrinos. I’m excited to be on Camino again in September. We’ll be starting in Tui. What is best way to get to Tui? Bus? FlixBus or another one, what station does it arrive at and a place to stash luggage while we walk around the town. Can’t wait to be walking! Orford Girl.

I would take the train from Porto to Valenca and then walk across the international bridge to Tui. An excellent way to enter Spain and Valenca is well worth seeing in its own right.

agree with Bradypus suggestion. Valenca and Tui are separated at the border by the Minho River and the walk out of Valenca and across into Spain is incredible. Feels like a scene from the Game of Thrones on the Portugal side.

Definitely spend some time in Valença!

Anyhow, if you are doing a portugese camino, you might as well start in Portugal. And it's good chance to have a portugese meal or indulge with some pastel de nata.

Train is fastest. When I was last there, a rail strike meant I had to take the bus, which added about an hour to the trip due to the milk-run route it takes. The walk from Valença is lovely.

My children met me in Tui and we walking to Santiago together. They flew into the Porto airport that morning and boarded the bus to Valenca right in front of the airport terminal. Have cash ready for the bus fare! I remember this being an issue. I met them in Valenca and we walking over the international bridge into Tui.

We took the train in Porto from Sao Bento station to Valença in June. We bought the tickets at the station and it was not expensive.
We started our camino from Valença and walked over the border on our first day. 124km from Valença to Santiago de Compostela. We walked with all our luggage across the border because the Spanish courier company operated only from Tui. It was no problem. We stayed in Casa da Barca in Tui(right on the camino). Take time to explore both Valença and Tui before you start longer waking days. On day two we walked to Porrino. Beautiful scenic way.
We were in Porto for 4 days before we started our walk in Valença and it worked for us to have a short holiday before rather than after the camino.
From Santiago we took the ASLA bus back to Porto.
Enjoy planning. The camino is a wonderful experience.

Don’t forget to put your watch forward an hour when you cross the bridge into Spain and/or reboot your ‘phone or it’ll cling onto a weak Spanish* signal for grim death.

After walking Camino Francés this year from Pamplona I decided to bus from Santiago to Valecena and walk the Camino Portuguese from Tui. It was fun walking up to the fort and then walking across the bridge into Spain. I did not even know about the fort till I read about it on this forum before I left on my trip. I was originally going to take a taxi into Tui from bus station, so happy I didn't.

When you walk from Valença to Tui, stay on the right handside of the bridge. That way, you get the best views
