LIVE from the Camino Life as a hospitalero: Salamanca

...the other a walker from the UK. The latter started in Almeria but has taken a circuitous route to get here, with a pause due to post-Brexit Schengen restrictions and a diversion to the Portugues for a while. I'm going to send this off now. Anything else today will be included in tomorrow's...

Proof required on entering Spain of accomodation bookings during the visit?

No. The questions would be asked at the point of entry into the EU/Schengen area, whether France, Spain or another country. It is enforceable there.

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

Too true. But I don’t think the Spanish lawyer I communicated with is a source of "a lot of silly things.” Nor any of the actual Spanish laws I personally read on BOE. But also, as I said, a court decision I read seemed to me to say it was OK until the lawyer (and the reports of denials from...

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

I agree: One can read a lot of silly things about actual EU law and actual national law in the various Schengen countries. I understand that the OP has decided not to work while on Camino. However, in the interest of others who are toying with this idea: We are talking about somebody on a...

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

I could be wrong. But so could the US State department. However, going to Spain to meet someone you do business with might be different. Might not. Three choices: 1. Do it, and probably no one will know. 2. Don't do it. 3. Look it up or ask a lawyer. Even if I were convinced it's...

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

Correct. There is certainly no prohibition against someone working on their laptop while traveling through Spain for a few weeks.

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

Really? According to travel.state.gov, “Spain is a party to the Schengen Agreement. This means that US citizens may enter Spain for up to 90 days for tourism or business without a visa.“ As I understand it the digital nomad visa is specifically for those who intend to live and work long term in...

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

This is absolutely incorrect. You only need a Visa if you are staying more than 90 days. There's nothing illegal about working on your laptop while you hike. That's the silliest thing I've ever heard. I've worked on my laptop in 40 countries on 6 continents.

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

The point is now moot, since @Unweekends has decided to walk a shorter Camino without working:

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

...gets offended and reports you. But you might look into Spain’s recently created “digital nomad visa.” If you come in on the visa-exempt Schengen rule, there will probably be no questions on arrival. But if asked, don’t say you plan to work remotely or they will watch you get on the next...

Update on upcoming new entry rules - EES/ETIAS

...foreign residents in the EU countries and EU nationals are not subject to the future Entry/Exit control system. When travelling between Schengen countries or travelling into or out of the Schengen area, we don't have to go through these channels, and our fingerprints and other personal data...

    Traveling with a cello

...going to treat it as fragile. Observation. Is your son intending to busk along the way, or is he willing to *ask* before playing, and do it for *free*? I am pretty confident that there are local regulations regarding foreigners trying to do things for pay, even Schengen members like...

    Spain Entry at Immigration

This has been in the works for years, and is not a visa, but an electronic travel authorization, like the ESTA for the US and the ETA for Canada. The time frame has changed multiple times. Please use the official website for information: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en When it...

    Spain Entry at Immigration

The Schengen region is most (not all) of the EU countries and a few non-EU countries. The rule for them is no more than ninety days in any consecutive 180 for citizens of a list of countries that includes USA. Not six months, although there are at least two Schengen countries with treaties...

    Spain Entry at Immigration

Somewhat related, keep a watch on when ETIAS will be implemented for entry. ETIAS is a new “visa-like” requirement to enter EU (Schengen) countries from non-EU countries. Please note implementation has been delayed many times. Currently the website says it will start first half of 2025. As I...

Travel from Santiago to Madrid to catch a flight

...just flew GVA --> PHL connecting via MAD 2 days ago. You also gonna factor in that you will have to change the terminal to "international " one as well as go through passport control since you will be leaving Schengen Area. Most likely go from Terminals 1 or 2 to 4. Extra time here is also...

    Public bathrooms in SdC

Which you definitely don't want to do. Hope you manage to find a shower - lots of good suggestions here. I don't know where you are or what your walking capacity is, but would it be possible to walk a few long stages, thus giving you at least a night in Santiago? It'd be such a pity to miss...

LIVE from the Camino Anyone in Santiago the next few days?

Great that you have your residency Don, that opens up a lot of opinions which in turn may make the choice more difficult. It doesn't surprise me at all that Sanibel recovered faster although the pictures looked devastating, along Vanderbilt Beach of course also. As you know Sanibel has big...

LIVE from the Camino Anyone in Santiago the next few days?

...offer for my condo which I am seriously considering. What's next for me? Possibly a move to St. Pete, a move back to Portugal or just perpetually renting places around the world. I obtained my residency in Portugal last year so living in the Schengen Zone should be no issue for me. We'll see.
