Hi Friends,
Before we start our camino this fall, we are spending a few days in Barcelona. First time in that city. Any suggestions on places to stay?
Thanks so much.

The Gracia neighborhood is really nice.
That said, Barcelona is swamped by tourists, and I wouldn't go anywhere near it in the summer or really anytime. Maybe the fall will be OK. Bring your umbrella to protect yourself from the anti-tourist squirt gun militia.

I stayed in the Gothics neighborhood which was quite nice. One recommendation, if you want to go into either the Sagrada Familia or the Picasso Museum purchase your entrance tickets online well in advance. From my experience there, there were no tickets to be purchased the day I visited nor the next day. Plan ahead if these spots are on your itinerary.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Barcelona has a great public transportation system, TMB, which makes it easy to get around, so you have lots of flexibility in choosing where to stay while still being close to the attractions. I agree that La Sagrada Familia and the Picasso Museum are must-sees, and booking your tickets in advance is definitely a good idea.

As far as possible from Las Ramblas, Barri Gotic and Ciutat Vella. Metro is great, so no need to stay in the mayhem of downtown Barcelona. Last time I stayed near the Plaza de Espanya. Time before, near Sants train station.

That said, it's a beautiful city and you will love it. Watch out for pickpockets.

Barcelona is great. Don’t worry about the protests. They are peaceful. Essential to make Sagrada Familia and other Gaudì buildings visit plan in advance. Renaissance Blu two streets away from the Cathedral was great and already very local. Don’t eat in any tourist areas. Get cafe recommendations from your hotel. Runner Bean does great tours. Blown away by the Paella!!

We stayed at Hotel 1898 which is just off the Ramblas. Convenient to everything. Do not miss Sagrada Familia. Visit the Mercat de la Boqueiria for the mounds of food and seafood.

Do not stay in an AirBnB.

If you plan to be in Barcelona on the weekend, I highly recommend attending the international mass at Sagrada Familia offered Saturday evening or Sunday morning. You need to arrive well in advance to get a decent seat.
