I want to give me 70 year old mother a taste of the camino as she loves walking and always admires my adventures on the camino. The problem is she has some mobility issues and can't walk very far, maybe 10k a day. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a flat good path, not too rocky (as she can easily trip and fall) part of the camino that we could cover over 4-5 days

Thanks

Not sure what time of year you are going, heat may be an issue. My experience (trying to walk with sciatica) is, from Leon to Astorga is pretty flat, or Carrion de los Condes to Astorga if you are looking into a longer time frame.

There is not a whole lot of shade on this route, so maybe not this route in summer.

Buen Camino from another 70 year old.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I wouldn't start at Carrión de los Condes - there is that 17 km stretch to Calzadilla de la Cueza with no services right after Carrión.
I was set to say the same. But the sections near Santiago have many services making it a good place to walk since you can find places easily no matter how far you are able to walk. You might find yourselves fit enough to go beyond your average.

Oops, sorry, I forgot about that. Amazing because now I remember how bad my sciatica was that day and how it felt that it would never end!!!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
