I walked that a couple weeks ago, I have no information on an alternative but it’s not a great section. Walking part of it in the rain didn’t help. A lot of road walking but it’s away from the busiest roads. A day in the life of a Pilgrim 🤷🏼♂️
I'm sure @peregrina2000 will be along soon to provide an alternative route, with very precise tracks from Wikiloc! Here is a discussion from 2012 of a detour to Santa Maria de Villaverde de Sandoval.
Gronze states there's Variant from Mansilla De Las Mulas that ends in Villamoros de Mansilla. I think it adds 5km on tho. So I don't know if it's worth it. Just wondered if anyone had experience of it.
Just an update. I have succesfully arrived at Madrid. Used a 75litre dry bag for my rucksack and poles. Was cheap and only weighs 80g. Worked a treat! Thanks for the advice. Now off to Burgos to stat walking tomorrow.
