Where to stay from Tui to Pontevedra

Hello everyone!

My wife and I are doing our first Camino in Sept and I was very curious about the stretch from Tui to Pontevedra. We have been to Spain multiple times and love the small towns more than the larger ones. This particular section is very industrious from everything I've read and I was wondering if anyone has broken up this stretch and stayed in smaller towns instead of the big ones. Originally we were looking to walk from Tui to O Porriño, then on to Redondela, then on to Pontevedra. We are not in a rush to complete, and are currently considering breaking this into a 4 day instead of 3 day section. Any recommendations on where to stay/stop to make this happen would be greatly appreciated. We are more about getting the experience of the culture than racing to finish!

The mariscos in Arcade are worth stopping for. Probably not worth it on a Sunday (much closed) or Monday (never buy fish on Mondays) though.

If you don't want to see industrious people working, the only industrial area that is easy to avoid is before O Porrino, where it is worth taking the complementary route closer to the river.

• A Portela
• O Pino
• Areal/Picarana

Last year, I stayed at the larger towns and then walked the Variante Espiritual.

I really enjoyed an alternative to O Porrino. I walked from Tui to Os Eidos and stayed at Casa Alternativo. The Host Dries is wonderful and provides the full experience. However it was only an 8 km walk, but I too was not in a hurry. From there I walked to Rua Mos (Dries will give you directions through the forest). I stayed at Albergue de Peregrinos Santa Baia de Mos. This was a 12 km walk. From there I walked to Redondela and stayed at Pilgrim Hostel Casa da Torre. This was an 11 km walk. And from Redondela to Pontevedra, a long walk for me at 18.8 km.

We are doing the Variante Espiritual as well. Again, breaking it up a bit. The plan for this is from Pontevedra to Combarro, to Armenteira/Vilar, to Cambados, to Vilanova de Arousa, by boat to Padron, we want to pick one place between Padron and Compostela, then on to Compostela.

Any recommendations you could make would be appreciated.

of the places you mentioned above, O Pino is east of Santiago de Compostela, is this the right town?? The other 4 were on the route, but that one is not on the same route, so just checking.

Hi there! Please tell your wife she will be pleasantly surprised and fall in love with the Camino! We are 60, this is our 2nd Camino and we adjust each day according to our abilities etc. There are many ways to walk your Camino and if she is worried, many taxis are available along this route to get you to your destination should she be too tired or something. Arcade/Pontesampaio can be nice, beach nearby, some nice eateries, small and quiet.
