Loooking forward to everyone's pictures in this new year.
Thumbnails of the pictures are always ok.

I started with a small local round of 3.3 km.
Send us some sun please!

Very windy and grey.
Unfortunately some abandonded firework. Though strictly forbidden people still take huge risks.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

While I condemn breaking the rules and potentially disturb wildlife with fireworks .... it is so much worse to actually leave behind the rubbish created. I do not understand people. Even if you are too drunk to take care of your stuff at night you can always can come back the next morning and clean up.

Thank you, @SabsP !
And happy New Year to all!

Haha, not if you were too sloshed to remember anything. 🥳🤭🤣

Rain and strong wind in the far North of Holland today. I'm not the least tempted to go out there this afternoon, so I will walk inside, back and forth.

Hours before 2025, just missed the end of the 2024 thread :) Photos from my Christmas Eve walk along the trails of the Alaksen National Wildlife Area. I've been walking in this area for a few years and just today discovered an interior trail that I didn't know existed! Along the river path I always enjoy a view of my village across the north arm of the mighty Fraser River. A beautiful Golden-crowned Kinglet landed very close and thoroughly checked out the tree for a few minutes before continuing on its way.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Day 1 January - new year 2025. Deserves a new Trail. ( although they all look a bit the same out of Las Vegas -ie red rock and spiky plants). The reddish round spiky guys are called California Barrel cactus. The walk wasn’t long in distance but it was interesting stopping to check out the variety of rocks everywhere and wonder how they arrived on the scene.

I could upload scenic photos of the landscape, but this is the one that brought me the most joy on my morning walk. All the agricultural and domestic waste outside the neighbouring cattle sheds — shredded silage wrap, torn fertiliser bags, scrap metal, tractor tyres, broken buckets, rubber gloves, used syringes, chemical containers, old fridge-freezer, kitchen cabinets, toys etc. — has been removed. The culprit is unlikely to reoffend. IMG_0208.webp

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
A long term resident. On the lookout for lunch.
I have pics but don't know where they are of a very pleasant walk along the former Erie Canal towpath in central New York. Some of them include similar "long-term residents."

Here's a pic on the Coventry Canal from Birmingham to Coventry and beyond. Somewhere on an unmaintained section, the brush shoved me and my bicycle into the canal. My laptop still worked, but couldn't be recharged after that. Later, an interesting marker when I arrived in Oxford.
The forum software insists that the only place to insert is inside Kirkie's quote. But you can click on them to see the full images.

I need to apologize sincerely for
1. posting aurora shots yet again ...
2. for using my old iphone as a camera resulting in horrible image quality
Tose were taken 15 minutes ago on a short evening walk behind the house ... out onto the ice in sub -30°C (-22F). Now enjoying a coffee at the fireplace 😎 🔥

3rd Edition. Vital content training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I am finally recovering from flu and related Bell's Palsy (I can now shut my right eye! thankful for small victories!), so I'm trying to get back out there even though it's been super cold here - currently 20 F (about 7 C). I went back to Wompatuck State Park, managed 2 hours and about 7 miles - that Icelandic Sweater and hat I bought on 2023 trip is really coming in handy! The pond here is just starting to freeze up yesterday, beautiful afternoon light at 4 pm

The new year started out with us getting sick (and we still are) so we skipped a few of our daily walks. As @CTLawGal (now also a MAWalkingGal) just wrote, the temperatures have been well below freezing and the wind blustery. At least the snowstorm coming from the west decided to skip visiting New England this time.

I cannot resist including my "backyard" picture taken from our living room window yesterday afternoon. The river is now frozen over here except for a pool that was kept open by a flock of Canada Geese. They have just abandoned that for Old Man Winter to claim.

Yeah, that's a swan, rarely seen swimming here. The Canada Geese are common. They've been swimming in the mornings.

Today for first time in several days the temperature climbed from low 20's to low 30's and the high winds stopped, so I managed to get out to Wompatuck Park in MA for a long 12 miler! Wompatuck was used as an ammunition depot during WWII, there are still remnants of moss covered railroad tracks. Felt good to be moving again, and just a little numbness left in my face from the Bell's Palsy - yay!IMG_7479.webp

That "weed" looks like Digitalis (in the States we refer to it as Foxglove)

A Weka! Mind yer bikkies, lest they get pinched. 💖
(And there the foxglove is definitely a weed.)

Poor little hungry robin
Cutie. Also 💖

A private memorial to 2 people who died for hiding other people in WWII. North Holland. In sync with the wintery vibe of the walk.
