VDLP - Too late in the year ?

Hello All,

I am thinking to walk the VDLP in the next couple of weeks but am wondering if I have left it a little too late for this year. I am less concerned about daylight hours (clocks go back in a couple of weeks time) ... and not so worried about the weather, but was wondering when the albergues start to close up for the year.

If I left Seville on October 16th I would expect to arrive in SDC on about 22nd November.

Thoughts welcomed please.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
There are quite a few people who wait until October to walk the VdlP because it is finally starting to cool down in Southern Spain. I believe that @lt56ny walked it during that time period.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I have walked the Via de la Plata in October and also in January/February. For the second one I did encounter some snow on several days. Mostly the weather was pleasantly cool. While summer on the VdlP is often dangerously hot I don't find winter too challenging.

Climate can vary from year to year but I've done the Plata in the summer, fall and winter. What is too late? In the winter a few municipal albergues were closed but there was always an economical alternative. Fall was wonderful and we were lucky with little rain, even in Galicia.

Thanks everyone for your kind help ... it sounds like VDLP is a different kind of journey to the other Camino's in that is so much quieter and by extension - more personal. And actually having a little bit of 'concern' oddly enough raises the sense of achievement. In the grand scheme of things there are bigger worries.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
