Hello!

I am thinking about doing the Primitivo again next year. In 2023 I started mid April, all albergues was open. This time I am considering late March, and I intend to do it in aprox 13 days (like described at Gronze.com) as last time.

Does any of you know if most albergues are opened for the season? Or is late March early-ish?

Cheers,

André

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
The easiest way for you to suss this out is to go to gronze.com and scroll through. The website has a page for all Primitivo albergues along with dates. You just click through to the end stage and then all the lodgings (not only albergues) pop up. This site is probably the most up to date.

Here’s the listing for the Grado albergue and even if you don’t speak Spanish you can probably see that it’s open March 1 - October 31.

Wow, I have used gronze.com so many times, never really noticed the dates!

Thank you.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
You're right on the cusp. A lot of places don't open until April, and especially given the very late Easter next year, there's less chance of them opening earlier. I track accommodations for the Primitivo here, and it's easy to scroll through opening months in Column J, but the response rate hasn't been great so far. A lot of that info is still for 2024, not 2025.

Having said that, I walked the Primitivo in March last year and had no trouble finding enough open albergues.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
For years, I had to track accommodation details for the guidebooks, but I did it in a manner that was kind of haphazard. Over time, I got better! Finally, I realized that thanks to the wonders of google sheets, I could simultaneously have an organized way to manage my own info and have a semi-useful resource to complement the books.
