Have you ever tried a post wash soak in straightforward hair conditioner followed by a rinse? Serious suggestion, it rescued a (very expensive) cashmere sweater that was machine washed by mistake. Apparently it "relaxes" the fibres. Worth...

This winter I bought a nice, thick 100% pure wool Norwegian sweater. It came with extensive instructions on how to care for it and wash it. I also always thought that hot washing and wool were no-go, so what surprised me was that the instructions...

The old Boy Scout method of banging them on the tent pole or a smaller Scout’s head is not to be recommended but a cool tumble dryer with 3 or 4 tennis balls added may help. (Start it up and go for a walk. The noise is extraordinary).

I might live to regret this: in my six Caminos I have never had a major problem finding a bed. I usually try to stay off the generally recognised stages and avoid starting at a weekend. I always book my first night but then play the rest by ear...

Each Camino has been different for me. My first Camino was very much about connecting with medieval culture and identifying with the medieval pilgrims who had walked (or rode) the route before me. My second was very much about spending quality...

Dear Laurie, You have been and remain a total inspiration. Your help, your guidance, your insights and now your inner thoughts - I applaud it all… as I enjoy a cuppa thanks to your recommendation of a water heating coil!! (Sourced in Burgos in...

Every camino is different. Each Camino changes us. So our experiences change. Our needs change. The important part is that it keeps drawing us and we keep exploring them. And even if you walked the same camino for a second time it would be a...
