Hi all, I am pondering on the ferry from Villanova, for the long walking distance and the much recommended scenery. So, does the ferry stop b4 Padron in order to walk the rest of the way? There seems to be quite a few interesting spots after Carril. And does the ferry counts towards getting a compostella ?

It stops very near to Padron; so close I thought it was Padron(edited).
Yes, it counts towards a Compostela.
You will love the Spiritual Variant!

The ferry of the Variante Espiritual ends in Pontecessures, 3 kms before Padrón. An easy walk from there straight ahead to the center of Padrón and the albergue and the church
opposite the church and the albergue is bar Don Pepe II. Go inside for a drink , a snack or breakfast. An unique camino experience with the owner Pepe.
he also has a nice appartment for rent in the center for one night. Very beautifull

The river section, sometime also known as the Via Crucis, starts in Vilanova de Arousa and goes to Pontecesures on the Río Ulla, to be followed by the short walk from Pontecesures to Padron.

Taking the river section does qualify towards gaining the Compestella, and the operators will stamp your pilgrim passport.

There are 3 operators on this route, each departing at slightly different times, with departure times influenced by the prevalent tides.

In no order of preference, as the prices from each operator are the same, currently 20.00€ per person one way only, these are the operators

La Translatio / La Barca del Pergrino / Naviera Bahia Sub
tel : 00 34 607 911 523
naviera@bahiasub.com

==

Translatio Xacobea / Tours Rías Baixas
(they operate the fast rib boat/launch)

tel : 00 34 680 733 990

Amare Turismo Náutico
tel : 00 34 650 410 322 + 650 410 323

Remember that departure / sailing times vary as they are dependent on the tides.

Hope that this might assist

Just give them a call on beforehand.
you can ask somebody to call from the place you stay the night before If you do not speak Gallego or Spanish
That's what I did and it worked well to enlist the help of the volunteer hospi at the muni albergue in Armentina where I was staying. They were happy to help me with the boat reservation..

La Barca just released the tide schedule for the next couple months. So if you are going soon you will have an idea of if the tides are working in your favor.
