feeling very stupid - needing assistance

Kiwi-family

{Rachael, the Mama of the family}
Time of past OR future Camino
walking every day for the rest of my life
For the first time ever in my life I put my phone in my back pocket on Saturday.
You know where this is going, don't you?
Yes, it fell in the toilet.
It died.
On the upside I now have a brand new phone for my upcoming camino;-)
I have had the pleasure of searching old posts to work out again how to put maps onto new phone.
There was no way I would remember without the directions in this forum!
But my camino forum app has disappeared and I can't find out how to put it on my phone anywhere.
How did I do it the first time? I'm assuming I went to the App Store (not literally "went", just virtually of course) and opened the app, but it's not there. Searching on the forum is difficult because app is too short a word and forum and iphone are far too common to be meaningfu!
So now I feel really stupid.
Can anyone help?

A selection of Camino Jewellery
Scratch my last reply if you saw it. I'm sure there was an issue but I've just double checked and at least for android it's there and working.

Hi Rachel ; and oops! I’ll make sure I never put it in my pocket again either !! I think iPhones need a lanyard!
Remember when the forum app. was taken off before by Ivar, and you had to save the ‘website’ to your ‘desktop’ (iphone). It still works like an app.

Bottom line, the Forum App is no longer available, per Ivar. He says to use the webpage. It is what I do. Personally, I never really liked the Forum app. It comes up fine on my iPhone 6s.
I also tried the forum app when it was introduced, but I uninstalled it because I prefer using the website on my phone. I tend to find all the threads that I want to read and open them in separate tabs, which I close as I finish reading. That way I don't have to keep going back to the main page. You can easily bookmark the website on your phone's browser. I don't know how it works on iPhones, but on my Android phone I can add a shortcut to the forum on my home screen.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
If this unfortunate case of ' dropsy ' ever happens again turn off ,shake vigorously , dry with a hair drier on a warm setting if feasible ,remove the battery as soon as you can and put the phone into a bowl of dry rice for two days . The rice , being hydroscopic draws all the remainig moisture out . A new battery should see the phone working again .

Go to the app store. Click on purchases. You will see apps you have previously downloaded.

@C clearly now how did you do that?
Hi Rachel
I’ll answer this one, and since the app for iPhone is no longer in App Store.

1- bring up website with camino forum and open site to the point you want it to open( log in etc). My pic shows main page. ... then at the bottom centre of your iPhone screen., you should see the box with arrow from top denoting ‘save to’ - see pic2 below. (You May need to scroll down on my pic as the square doesn’t show at first glance).

2- after you’ve hit box with arrow - see pic1 below - on 2nd row you’ll see the option to save to home screen. (Icon has + sign). This is the one .

That’s it. It will be on your phone.

Good luck with new phone ..
Annie

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
@kayagee66 done that! No sign of it - probably because it’s been discontinued (as per previous responders). Thanks all the same

@Charles Zammit Thanks - we tried all that even though it heated up significantly immediately indicating it was frying itself. We are eternal optimists and pulled it all apart anyway!
@OzAnnie i’ll give it a go! Thanks

In future(?) try the rice bowl, but without the hairdrier treatment. It does work! There will be no such case in the future? Certain?

Anyway all the best, Kiwi!

U can recover everything from your phone using a program called imobie

If you open the App Store > and click on the circular profile icon top right of the text that says "Today". Select purchases and you can download the app again even if its no longer in the store as long as you previously downloaded it. If you want a great maps app try "Galileo Offline Maps" and/or "maps.me" both are free, have really good downloadable offline maps and you can import a gpx (route file) file of the entire camino.
