Dublin to Leon

Join Camino Cleanup: Logroño to Burgos May 2025 and Astorga to O'Cebreiro in June.
I would probably fly to Santander, it's a small regional airport, quick and easy to get through. From there, bus to Oviedo and bus to Leòn. There might be better options but that's what comes to mind.

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
I had thought of Madrid so I need to check out times of flights and trains

Last March I went Dublin to Madrid (MAD), taxi to Chamartin train station, direct train to Leon . Getting in in late evening, can’t remember the time without checking but early enough to checkin at hotel, go in search of the credential from the Benedictine convent and get something to eat ,ready to go early next morning.

Edit: and the best of luck with it 👍

Planning to start again next year in Leon. What is the best way to get there from Dublin.
Hi. I went Dublin to Madrid and bus to Leon but I think Santander is easier to navigate to Oviedo. You can actually get First Class on the some of the buses for relatively cheap which makes the journey more pleasant. I found Madrid Airport and train station overwhelming. Best of luck. Are you walking the French or the Salvador from Leon?? Daniel

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Kind of depends on when and cost vs time to travel presences. I would use the Rome to Rio app, it gives you all the options. Personally I would prefer to fly to Madrid and take the train to Leon.

Hi Daniel we have just finished the Portugese Camino last week and I am planning to go back to do another week next year from Leon but I was unsure how to get there. I finished last year in Burgos but don’t fancy the Meseta.

Well the Camino in Dublin actually starts 25 km away in Bray (optional warm up leg) then as strange as it seems the best way is to Santiago de Compostela particularly as you save (on an already cheap fare) by booking return fare up front.

Google says it is a direct flight and train to Leon is 5 hours

Hi Camo I walked Dublin to Bray this year on the warmest day of the year and I loved it. I have also been walking sections of the Camino Francis for years. Unfortunately I have only a week at a time. Leon is my next starting point. I checked out the train from Santiago to Leon but I can only find one train. The flight from Dublin arrives at 16.50 which doesn’t suit.

Yes those flights are not every day of the week so if on a tight schedule it may not work too well

Take the ferry from Rosslare to Santander or Bilbao
I was chatting with two members of the Irish Camino Association yesterday, and they have had very recent travelling experiences by ferry to and from Bilbao. From Santiago.
In 2006, I enjoyed a wonderful long and slow train trip back to Bilbao.
It is a magnet for me, in the context of reducing carbon footprint. I can only endorse, using a very current expression, the recommendation to explore that option. You will need time, but in the longer view, and it being actually possible, ... over to you.

Ah ok. There are two options from Leon. You can walk the Salvador(stunning) to Oviedo which is a 5/6 day Camino and very quiet or continue on the French way. My only reservation was when I went through Madrid I found it so crazy busy. I have travelled before from Santander to Oviedo and Gijon by bus and found both very easy and comfortable. Whichever way you choose will be the right one so have a great trip.
