My sympathies for his wife and family. This hits home being a 64 year old male myself.
While 65 is much too young, my greater fear is ever getting old enough to require being placed in a senior home.
That would be truly hell for me.
Going with my boots on is my preference, be it on a Camino or my motorcycle versus being in a seniors home or hospital hooked up to tubes or monitors with dementia.

I have got my leave. Bid me farewell,
my brothers! I bow to you all and
take my departure
Here I give back the keys of my
door--and I give up all claims to my
house. I only ask for last kind words
from you.
We were neighbors for long, but I
received more than I could give. Now
the day has dawned and the lamp
that lit my dark corner is out. A sum-
mons has come and I am ready for
my journey.

If I recall, it is a pretty steep and steady hill all the way from Portomarin to Castromaior.
I now skip Castromaior. It is quicker and less hilly to stay on the road after Gonzar and stay Straight to the T in the road, cross over the highway, make a left and you rejoin other pilgrims as they make a right on there way to Ventas de Naron. When you get to T there are camino signs there.

My condolences to the pilgrim’s wife. Has to be a devastating experience away from home.

Impossible to even begin to understand how you must be feeling. I hope that you have the support needed, sending my thoughts, condolences and hugs.

RIP 🙏

"Upon the steep and hallowed hill,
A pilgrim's journey met the still.
The sun dipped low, the day grew dim,
A final climb, a sacred hymn.

His wife beside, in tender care,
With fellow pilgrims gathered there.
Their hearts entwined in silent prayer,
A shared embrace in open air.

The path was long, the hill was steep,
A journey's end, a soul to keep.
The Camino's call, a vow to heed,
A passage made by faithful deed.

In every step, a story told,
Of love and loss, of young and old.
A pilgrim's way, forever bound,
In sacred steps on holy ground.

Though he has passed, his spirit stays,
In whispered winds and golden rays.
For every pilgrim finds their peace,
On Camino's path, a sweet release."

Sincere sympathy .

If I recall, it is a pretty steep and steady hill all the way from Portomarin to Castromaior.

Wow - I was just there two days ago. It is a pretty steep climb - suppose that aided in the defense of the Iron Age hill fort. Rest in peace

Yes, it is rather steep, and I thought the same thing.
That is SOOO crazy... I simply do not recall it "being steep" (yet so many of you state so and it does look this way on the Stage 31 map.... about 200m elevation).
...It was raining most of the day. I started from Casa Cruceiro in Ferreiros somewhat late because I wanted a bit of light to take the photo of the 100km sign. I walked through Portomarin, stopping briefly for Dessayuno Numero Duo which I had at Cafe Bar Gonzar (be it that I was striking for ) Mirador but struck out as they would not open for another 2 hours and I didnt feel like waiting) and just plodded ahead.... Perhaps I was preoccupied with all that wetness...

@BHP - I am SO SORRY! Nothing can fill the void in your heart after such loss but take solace knowing that he is at Peace, he was doing what he loved to do and he was next to the person he loved and cherished.
My Prayers are with you and Your Family!

(heck, thats the year of my birth.... I'll be turning 65 in 2 months)
