We have noticed that Ian’s boots had lost a lot of thread. This is a real serious matter because he takes size14 and his last pair of keen boots, which he absolutely loves, had to be ordered in. Three weeks ago he bought a pair of Merrill’s which appeared ok but he has been adjusting it with socks and inner soles, but he was having all kinds of problems with his knees, shin splints and even fasciitis. He went back to his keen trail shoes which he’s had for 8 months. On Saturday we noticed that the thread was really worn on the trail runners and realised that it would never last for 800+ km. So we had to get him another pair as a matter of urgency as we leave in 6 weeks! We tried about 6 shops, but finding that big a size in any make was virtually impossible. We eventually found this place that actually had up to size 16, and they specialised in keen! The size 15 was great and while he was walking around the shop the salesman asked me about my boot, which I was wearing at the time. I said size 7. He wanted sell me a pair. I said no thanks, I got mine at a closing down sale for $90 at anacondas. Then while Ian was deciding, he threw. Yes threw, in a pair of size 7 mid targhee! We will try out both pairs this coming week
