I am already planning my 2025 pilgrimage, starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port probably on 22 April.

Albergue/Hostal Camino del Perdon. Gronze lists these as two separate establishments, with different addresses, but on closer inspection, they seem to be the one and same place. Can anyone confirm, please?

Despite some warm recommendations, a lot of comments on Gronze about these establishments are negative.

As regards Casa Baztan, I do not know what to think. TripAdvisor gives it 4,5/5, and Gronze is full of praise too, but on Booking.com there are some very negative reports.

Uterga would make a good stop-over after Pamplona.

Thanks for your help.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

As far as I know, there’s only two Albergues in that town: Perdon and Bazatlan. I was there in April 2024.

Theres also a “Hostal” Perdon which I believe is a separate building that has private rooms.

This year I stayed at Albergue Perdon and two years ago I stayed at Bazatlan. They’re both OK, but Perdon is nicer and much more comfortable IMO.

Check out the Eunate church , which is a short detour right after Uterga from Muzurabel.

Same here, I'm planning for 2025 and I wish to stop at Uterga, these two places are my only choices too and I'm not sure which to choose. Both have some negative feedback but I guess they're both quite alright if not too fussy.

I'll really appreciate it if someone can let me know how to contact either of these to book a room (prefer private room), I'm been trying to look online to see if they have a website.

I changed my post because surprisingly booking didn't show anything in Uterga at the moment. But I found one website.

Join us from Logroño to Burgos in May 2025 or Astorga to OCebreiro in June.
Only an idle thought but if I wanted to improve my chances of booking a room in one of my favourite spots I’d post a few dozen negative reviews on Tripeadvertiser and Berking.con. That should clear the road.

It breaks my heart when I see yet another old favourite appear on those sodding sites because I know what will happen next. Anyone dropped into O Bispo lately?

Just in case anyone is wondering which is my all time favourite Albergue - it’s the one where I get a bed, a warm shower and somewhere to dry my socks. All the rest is just stuff and has nothing to do with Camino or pilgrimage

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Travel your own camino. Don't let other people dictate where you sleep at night.
Agreed. There are always some negative reviews about any given place at done point.
You have to really discern the information and see if what wad said makes sense.
My wife spent 25 years working in hospitality industry.
Her hotel had 1-star reviews because...
  • It rained every day and we didn't get to use a pool
  • I came for an interview and didn't get the job
  • I thought we'd be closer to the beach (near beach is 70 miles away)
and so on

Then there are people who go on Camino, stay at donativo albergue, donate 5€ and expect a 5-star luxury hotel "service" from a volunteer hospitalero/a and a breakfast to boot.

Just make your own best Judgment

Good luck and Buen Camino

Anyway I've contacted Camino Del Perdon through whatsapp and the reply was fast. Unfortunately they not taking any reservations for next season as they are renovating and they're not sure when it'll complete yet. Now I'm going to try Baztan, if not gotta stay at other stages..

I don't understand how two out of three platforms that review the albergue favorably are causing decision paralysis. There will always be bad reviews, because let's face it, often times guests (not the establishment) can be "bad". I can always tell a reasonably critical review from a "diva review", i.e. the guest is never satisfied, no matter what.

Walking a camino isn't about perfection. As @Tincatinker stated, a shower, warm bed and laundry line are about the only things I really need on a camino.

*edit by the way I stayed at Casa Batzan--it's perfectly fine, no issues, good meal, hot shower, good bed. What more do you need?
