Pancorbo on the Vasco Interior aka Camino de Baiona - it seems to change its name every time it crosses a border. Heads up: you will need a GPS coming out of Pancorbo as it is the one spot that is not elaborately way marked. We ended up trudging through ploughed fields and undergrowth to get back on track. Nice little town though.

Given the new thread, a pass is offered by one unqualified to do so, but you are such a faithful contributor.. shame you had to pass on the Parador. Let it go - I have no doubt you already did!

On Voie du Littoral- the most western route in France 20230622_094328.webp in June 2023 just crossing into Landes. It may look like a quiet sandy track in the unending forests of Landes but just behind is a military base so it had a constant soundtrack of jets and helicopters

September 6, 2024. Somewhere between Mansilla de las Mulas and León, as I was walking that morning next to a building, I was struck by how my shadow looked so “Pilgrim-like”, very unlike my usual introverted nerdy appearance, and more like Indiana Jones looking for the Lost Ark. Is that really me???

More from Pancorbo, a fantastic pueblo!
This is from the ruins of the fortification that's right above it. Not as scary as it appears, but still...not for one with a fear of heights.

Vera - are the steps part of the trail or are they extras if you want to climb just for the view ???

No. Definitely extra! There is a lovely short loop from the pueblo and back again that goes near there. The going up into the ruins is even extra from that: You can pass them by, and the views from the base are still eye-popping.

Edited to add the forgotten attachment from up in the ruins:

I was annoyed that the weather was so bad that I didn't fancy those steps in wet conditions- especially as such a short easy stage from Mirando de Ebro.

The Black Madonna of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame-du-Puy, Le Puy-en-Velay, May 2022
From Wikipedia: In 1254 when passing through on his return from the Holy Land, Saint Louis IX of France gave the cathedral an ebony image of the Blessed Virgin clothed in gold brocade (Notre-Dame du Puy). It was destroyed during the Revolution, but replaced at the Restoration with a copy that continues to be venerated.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Sneaking in, without a photo. Well, my avatar is a CF scene taken near Tomas's place not long after the cruz de ferro. It is a blessed relief to check in to this thread, and others that offer glimpses of what awaits pilgrims along the many caminos leading to the Cathedral in Santiago. Thanks to everyone, your contributions light up the day for those who may never walk another pilgrimage to Santiago!

What a lovely post, @Kirkie; I agree with your sentiments! I enjoy each and every photo I see, even though I don't pop in often, and once I "get behind" in looking, it seems there are so many pictures, that I eventually can never catch up!

Oh, thank you @stewinyvr ! I have such good memories of Torres del Rio! We were there in September 2012 and stayed in the albergue La Pata de Oca. It was bloody hot when we arrived. So happy with the little swimming pool. And all night we enjoyed the local festivities.

Looks like fun, it was a little cooler when I was there, although it was September as well..I stayed at Hostal Rural San Andres, but it was too cold to tempt me in the pool. I did have a funny incident here. I booked my room on everyone's favourite booking site, and was happy to get the last dorm space, only to realize about 30 secs after confirming that I had booked for a female dorm ( I am male :) )..because of this I ended up upgrading to a private room with a bath - which I did use...during the pilgrim meal in the evening I was talking to a mother and daughter from New Zealand who had been originally booked in separate dorms, due to my cancellation they were able to be reunited :)
