I just checked the 3 caminos is available on Prime in Australia 😁

Altra trail shoes versus hiking shoes

I just walked from Roncesvalles to Leon in the Lone peaks. Those in combination with switching to toe socks gave me my best walk yet. No blisters not even any hotspots. When I took my shoes off at the end of each walk my socks were almost as fresh as the start of the day. They let all the...

    In Belorado now on CF

Walking 3 weeks from Roncesvalles. About half way now few days from Burgos. Plenty of people walking but not as busy as the September wave from Sjpdp starting now. We have not booked anywhere since Roncesvalles and we have had zero issues getting beds. I don't think anyone else has too...

    Biarritz to Roncesvalles tomorrow

Thanks to the advice here. I managed to catch up with my friend at Roncesvalles. Express Bourricot from Biarritz airport got me to Sjpdp in plenty of time to catch the 1:45 coach to Roncesvalles. It goes between Sjpdp and Pamplona. The bus stop is not very obvious. It's almost opposite hotel...

    Biarritz to Roncesvalles tomorrow

Due to 4 hour Ryanair delay I missed my flight from Dublin to Biarritz today 22/08/23. My mate caught the flight and will walk tomorrow. I've booked a flight early tomorrow and would like to travel to Roncesvalles tomorrow to catch up with him Any suggestions on the best option? Cheers Paul

    Are magnesium tablets worthwhile?

Maybe if I think my lonely unloved post needs a like ?

Rescue of peregrina lost in fog on the Route Napoleon

On the Camino Frances if there's visibility issues and if you wait on the path you can be fairly sure other, possibly more experienced walkers will come by, unless you are walking very late in the day. This will help. I have done a few caminos and other long distance walks, I would not set...

    Using Trekking Poles

It's always nice to see the final outcome after the original question, and various responses.

SIM card and place to purchase

Thanks to the advice on here I have purchased an eSim for my upcoming walk. I wasn't really aware of them before. They seem to be more expensive than getting a physical sim in the big cities, but maybe on par with getting a SIM at the airport? I think that, once again good advice on here, for...

    Camino Mozárabe so worth it

Thanks for posting. I'm probably going to retire next year, and I'm thinking maybe I will alternate the CF with a quieter route whilst my legs hold up. I walked 500km on the vdlp in April/ May 2018. I think this was probably my ideal for a quieter camino. Good infrastructure, 10-20...

Rescue of peregrina lost in fog on the Route Napoleon

Scary. I walk in 10 days and I can get disoriented in a shopping center. I have been caught out in whiteouts skiing, and walking. It's surprisingly difficult to gauge anything useful even the slope. I think the standard advice if you are lost is to stay out of retrace your steeps, rather...

    Using Trekking Poles

It was thanks to the great advice on this forum I got poles for my first camino. And I was that person watching YouTube in Sjpdp on how to use them before heading out. I tripped myself a few times initially but before the first day was out I kicked myself that I'm hadn't used them for previous...

First Time walking Camino Frances from SJP

Lucky lucky you. The first time is something special. I will be 3 days ahead of you. As I am having a few issues you may pass me on the way. Buen Camino

Any advice for when you want to quit?

Good luck. Remember that whatever you decide it's ok. The Camino will be waiting if this is not your year to complete it. I thought I would have to stop walking on my first camino due to tendonitis, I had a few short days. Even if I only walked 8km ít felt as if I was still on Camino. I...

SIM card and place to purchase

Thanks for all of the tips folks. I'll do some research.

    Opinions on Meseta

I'm another pilgrim voting for the Meseta, and continuous walking the path. I have a sense that this is becoming the convention, no one on this thread seems to be suggesting busing over the Meseta, which I have seen suggested before. Hornillos is one of my favorite stops on the CDF, I'd...

SIM card and place to purchase

Sjpdp or Dublin airport to get a SIM? I live in Australia with family in the UK, where I will be traveling to the camino from via Dublin. Starting in Sjpdp soon., Previously I used Sims I picked up in England, cheaply available everywhere. I understand due to crazy stupid brexit, UK Sims...

    Apps

I found the Gronze.com website to be a great resource. It's a Spanish website but my android phone did a great job of automatically translating into English. It has all of the usual useful info on stages, towns, elevations etc. The reviews of accomodation are pretty accurate.

    April 2024 Our First Camino

As a fellow 64yo fairly unfit senior just about to walk my fourth camino, my advice is to just go for it and have fun. The advice on this forum tends to be correct. Book orisson and Roncesvalles if you can, so you can take your time at the start. Be flexible and the Camino will provide.

Quieter Routes to SDC: Departing from the CF

Yes you are right. I indulged in a bit of hyperbole. I guess it's a mix of happenstance, you, and your point of view whether you walk with mere acquaintances or new friends. If you have walked 10 caminos probably you do have to think of each new years bunch as acquaintances. If you have...
