Walking with a pinched nerve in my back

I have the same ailment in my left leg - but caused by an incompetent surgeon during abdominal surgery. May I suggest find a pain management doc that can inject near the nerve. It provides substantial relief- for a couple months. Worth it!

SdC Airport to Sarria - 19 August (late night 11pm)

I would just get a hotel to get some sleep, get an early train or bus and start walking when you arrive. Just my opinion

Hello to All - getting from Porto to Santiago

you can book on Renfe. Just need to book Porto-Vigo and Vigo-Santiago. That’s because Renfe is run by the Spanish govt. You may need to change train stations in Vigo - but they are close - 10 min cab or Uber. I prefer train travel to buses.

Solo 13 days, Portugues + Variante Espiritual + SDC to Finistera/ Muxia — Which town/ city to start in Portugal?

You can’t stay at the monastery unless you are staying at least 2 nights. They don’t want to be a place for peregrinos. There is an albergue - get a reservation or we stayed at he Pousada Armenteira- beautiful. There are other places in the area that will pick you up and then drop you back the...

Walking with a pinched nerve in my back

My back was OK. The first 3 days in Porto and surrounding areas (being tourists) my left knee was KILLING ME. Iced it every night. Talking megadoses of NSAIDS. But once we got to Vigo and I got my tracking poles, knee pain vanished. The entire time. But I only carried a day pak and had our bags...

Solo 13 days, Portugues + Variante Espiritual + SDC to Finistera/ Muxia — Which town/ city to start in Portugal?

I commend you to doing the Portuguese! It is magical. Any special reason you want to walk to Finesterre? I think with a healing injury it will be difficult. Options: depart from Vigo then you should be OK. Or leave from Portugal and take transport to Muxia/Finesterre. Whatever you choose, take...

Verifying distance...actual walking or established route. Does Vigo to Santiago qualify for a Compostela?

Yes. We walked around his route. We also added the spiritual variant - but wasn’t necessary. If you start on the waterfront near the train stations just walk up Rua Urzaiz - it will join the route. Buen Camino!

Should I replace my Hokas now?

    Sounds perfect!

Should I replace my Hokas now?

BTW - which Hokas? The speedgoat’s sole don’t do well on concrete or asphalt - so I went with the Challengers (plus an insole liner from REI). Not a single blister! Plus wore cool max thin sock liner and thin merino wool socks over. (Can’t have wool on my feet)

    Train bookings

Also - if you look on Renfe for Santiago to Porto - won’t find it. BUT - if you look at Santiago to Vigo then Vigo to Porto - It’s there! There are two train stations in Vigo but a 10 min can ride.

Advice Request: Long Stages for the Coastal with Espiritual Variant

You are going all the way from Combarro to Vilanova de Arousa? How very sad….

Advice Request: Long Stages for the Coastal with Espiritual Variant

I can help you with Vigo on. You could do Vigo to Redondela 20k or Arcade. 28km. Then through Pontevedra to Combarro. Then the climb to Armenteira on to Ponte Arnelas or all the way to Vilanova De Arousa. The boat is the next day - walk through Padrón and continue on for at least another 10km...

    Porriño or Vigo ?

Most places take credit cards. Make sure to do in Euros (and have a card that doesn’t charge transaction fees). But have cash. For the small things - and to take advantage of the small kiosks along the Camino. Plus leave a euro if you use a bathroom without buying something. Buen Camino!

    Camino miracles

I had two things happen… 1) when we began planning 9mo prior to our Camino, I was having left knee issues. Already had both hips replaced- a godsend. Had a hyleronic injection a week before we left. Our first 3 days we played tourist in the Porto area. Our first day walked up and down 28k steps...

    Overthinking this thing.

    That’s why I chose Challengers.

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

I asked this question yesterday - I used it while on the Portuguese (especially the spiritual variant) several times and people didn’t know the warning.

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

I agree! Almost got run over a couple times by e-bikes on the Portuguese earlier this month. One pair of bikers - not e-bikes were polite and used their bells. Is “BIKE BACK” not a term used universally?
