The price of coffee in Spain and the perplexing economics of it

Yea agreed. Real shame. Real attraction for me (maybe the biggest for me re Spain) is the small bars that sell coffee/vino/tapas etc. Currently in Coruna for 3 weeks and not sure what we would do without them.

Clarification of change in refund of e-tickets on Renfe!

If an organisation offers a range of flexible and semi flexible products, I don’t think the customer can be criticised for buying them and taking advantage of the T and C’s.

The price of coffee in Spain and the perplexing economics of it

Indeed the cost of alcohol in USA is quite eye watering! Spent a couple of months in USA this year..,east coast, west coast, mid west, and (outside happy hours), $12 seems to be the ‘lead in’ price,, and that’s before you add the taxes and gratuity, so bottom line $15. That compare to €2 in...

Run the Camino from Ponferrada to Santiago

Good Luck! The night before I started the Frances I had dinner with a chap who was running all the way to SDC. In fact when I left the following morning he ran passed me. I sadly never got his contact details but I was in no doubt he would achieve it. To meet him was a great start to my walk, he...

LIVE from the Camino Remember when I thought this was crazy?

Ah good luck and well done. Been following your posts as I am on the same track and walking from just north of Padrón to SDC today. Will look out for you!

LIVE from the Camino Gun fire? Cannon? Fireworks??

Yes I heard them too walking into Padron!

Is the Camino the right thing for me?

Ah lovely! Spent a year in Canaries 2020/1 and stayed at least a month in each of the islands, though a bit more in Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Did some walking but nowhere near enough! Enjoy!

I wonder what the Gallegos call us pilgrims?

Ah the beauty of language. In the UK, at least in my area, Jaffa is slang for a man who is infertile. So if you stand in an English pub and shout ‘some of my best friends are Jaffa’s’ you may get some bemused looks!

Is the Camino the right thing for me?

Some great walking in the Canaries and fairly quiet if I remember. How about La Gomera? Close to home and not exotic for you but maybe a good starter?

    Random Acts of Kindness

Please make it stop. 99% of people in the world are great and help but do we need to keep telling everyone about it. I stopped my LinkedIn account because I couldn’t stand anymore virtue signalling. Can we avoid it here please!

    30 Days to Walk.

You could do the Norte in 30 days if you are an ok walker.

    The yellow road

Just to give a huge ‘thumbs up’ to the ‘espiritual variante’ that starts just after Pontevedra. Just finished second day. Just a hugely different feel and much less busy than the Portuguese.

LIVE from the Camino Héctor Walks His Way-Week 3

Indeed! I have had three times when I had to use cash this week. 1) €20 minimum. 2) card blocked as my bank thought the bar was a gambling site! 3) cash only bar.

LIVE from the Camino Caminha to SDC

It’s an odd time even allowing for the late night culture of Spain. Hopefully I am misinterpreting!

LIVE from the Camino Caminha to SDC

25 Aug. Day 5 Arcade to Comborro 26km / 37k steps So I have decided to take the ‘variante espiritual’ and it only took a few mins to replan and book the boat from Vilanova to Padron on 27th. Again it is a lovely walk. Eventually a hot day but cool enough until I got to Pontevedra. I am not...

LIVE from the Camino Caminha to SDC

24 Aug. Day 4. Vigo to Arcade Approx 25km / 35k steps Had a great evening in Vigo last night along (day 3) with 30k folks watching their team win. It was quite an atmosphere and the party continued late into the evening. So onwards and upwards. Really pleased re my ability to walk and how my...

Walk the Camino, while working remotely?

Not easy but very doable in my view. I guess you need to gauge how it will go down with your manager and team. If they are supportive and you can maybe present it in a positive light then I would take a serious look. I think you can manage the tech ( no real issue with wifi) and the time...

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

Don’t tell vendors how to run their business. It they offer cash and card payment don’t assume they prefer cash, or that it is cheaper. If they offer sales via a third party don’t assume they always prefer direct bookings.

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

I agree even as a European. I don’t think some Europeans quite realise how toxic this has become … to a tourist like me from UK who has spent a couple of months in USA this year it’s not a conversation I would start!
