    SJPDP pilgrim office - why?

Five years is a long time in the evolution of the Frances. That iteration will not reflect the current situation. Gronze and our friend Wisepilgrim struggle to keep up with the changes. A five year old list has value only as an historical artefact 🧐

Ride share Taxi from Santiago aeroport to Sarria JULY 1st 2024

There are buses from the airport to Lugo at 18:45 and 20:15. Taxi from there or overnight in Lugo and catch an early bus to Sarria in the morning

    Review Clothing Management

My point entirely. And it’s a philosophy I’ve long adopted

    Interactive Map

@Rick of Rick and Peg that sounds like an interesting way to record a track but not much use if trying to check if you’re “on” track. I find the blue dot useful to check-in at debatable navigation points but I only open the app when required. My Fitbit will offer an opinion on how far I’ve been...

    Interactive Map

Maps.cz do warn that the battery life will be impacted by the continuous interaction with GPS satellites. Make sure you have downloaded the appropriate maps. Switch your phone to airplane mode. Don’t activate “navigate” just check at any debatable junction where the little blue dot is and you...

Is it possible to walk the camino primitivo as a vegetarian?

The OP (original poster) never returned to the forum after their original post. Presumably they starved to death somewhere in the early stages of the Primitivo. As the many responses in the rest of the thread evidence the Primitivo is entirely survivable and even enjoyable for anyone who chooses...

    weight

Is that a question or isn’t it? My grandma would probably have asked if you were feeling alright. I won’t’cos it’s none of my business. Everything was grandma’s business

    Crampons in Carry-on

I’ve always considered crampons to be as useful in mud as they are in a disco. Same applies to in slushy snow, loose scree and much of the other trail conditions you’re likely to encounter on the TMB this time of year. If there’s unexpected snow cover this week there’ll likely be just deeper mud...

    Review Clothing Management

I wrote this back when: "I met two ladies “of a certain age” walking the Pennine way in shorts, vests (and I’m sure other essentials but I did not enquire (or look to closely). As I stood there in my poncho and gaiters and other attempts at water proofing they chuckled. To be honest, they...

    SJPDP pilgrim office - why?

Arriving off the 14:22 from Bayonne I wandered up to the Bureau Pèlerin to get a "first stamp". That late in the afternoon the volunteer was a bit concerned when I said "No, I didn't need a bed". "Vous allez à Orisson?"" Non, Valcarlos."" Bonne idée". I'll not pass that way again but I remember...

LIVE from the Camino Invierno June 2024

Ah, Peter, remember this is Galicia. The varied heights of the markers are obviously to maintain useable way marking no matter the height of the flooding or the depth of the fog

Ride share Taxi from Santiago aeroport to Sarria JULY 1st 2024

Hi saraE: welcome to the forum. You may get lucky and find someone to share that taxi, perhaps someone on your flight. There are, less expensive, ways to get to Sarria or at least Lugo but, meanwhile a couple of questions. Is 16:30 your flight landing time or your cleared Border Control...

Train or bus from Pamplona to San Sebastian

How far in advance are you trying to book? Anything over a month is too far ahead

    Private rooms availability?

Would love what? The listings are available on the apps and websites cited. If you’d like @ian&linda ’s list you could pm them and I’m sure they’ll oblige.

    Kilometre markers

They are known as Mojones: not a far step in the evolution of language from Mahone as in pogue mahone. There actual purpose escapes me but I guess they’re an excellent method of using up an embarrassing surplus of faux marble and scrap bronze while appearing to do something useful. It’s the...

The Camino does NOT start in StJpdP - discuss

Wow! This thread back again? Lovely. For Friends of Alice; those who enjoy rabbit holes, and for those who think that perhaps the Camino Frances isn't just a walk in the Spanish countryside.... I recommend it and as for: "The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there"...

    Booking Orisson and Roncesvalles

I've never done other. Climbing a stupid hill just to climb down it again was reserved for my mountaineering days ;)

Bike wrapping for train from Santiago to Ferrol.

You can click through on the Cercanias pages and get a ticket to Ferrol on a Cercanias train. As I recall the Alvia comes from Madrid heading for A Coruna. Other trains are available.... You would normally be able to take a bike on the direct route but because of the "works" between Ourense and...

Bike wrapping for train from Santiago to Ferrol.

Hmm, great question! You should not need to wrap your bike if you are travelling on Cercanias (Commuter / local) trains. The journey SdC to Ferrol is on Cercanias and the whole of the FEVE network is classified as Cercanias. Info here...
