    Sellos on holy days.

You'd also expect more churches to be open on the feast of the Assumption

    Language questions

When in Motherwell, which is only 50 miles up the road from where I live, I tried to order a breakfast only to be baffled by the option of "squirrel ink". I overcame the language barrier by pointing. When I was in Ferrol I wandered into Tourist Information and asked where I could buy walking...

One (water) bottle to rule them all?

Ah Mahou. If I'd known I was going to be so thirsty this morning, I'd have drunk even more Mahou last night ;)

One (water) bottle to rule them all?

Camelback do a similar tube attachment for their Eddy bottles. They work really well. One of the big pluses of having a water bottle outside your pack is ease of access for top ups as you come across fountains. Frequent refreshes give you constant cool water.

Camino Ingles - how immersive an experience have you found it?

@Varekai I walked the Ingles a couple of years ago. It's a great Camino. Starts by the sea, wanders up and down a river then up and over and up and over some lovely countryside. Couple of really nice towns to pass through. Arriving in Santiago is always special. You'll have a great time...

Amount of time required to get from the Lisbon airport to Oriente train station

I'd take the 4:00 pm one. We flew into Lisbon and transferred to the train station via the underground. Very slow. We had to run down the platform for the train. As we stepped on board the door closed and away we went. All's well that end's well and all that, but not a relaxing start to a...

    Trainline and registering!

Maybe try using Raileurope.com ? This links direct to Renfe and according to Seat61.com, doesn't have the credit card rejection problems that Renfe has. Trainline may be convenient but often costs more. Sometimes a lot more. I've just bought a ticket from Bratislava to Prague direct and saved...

    Ferrol - Worth a Look?

We had a full day in Ferrol before setting off. Really enjoyed it. I prefer working port towns to seaside resort towns. They feel more lived in. There's some really nice architecture, if you remember to look up at buildings. http://www.ferrol.es/arquivos/documentos/turismo/Modernismo -...

Experience with waterproofing spray for cloth walking shoes?

If only my dear mother, whose memory I cherish across the vale of years, were still alive she could have contributed to this thread. Having bought her first pair of fabric walking boots she was kindly given a tin of water repellent spray to proof them with. The following morning, after showering...

Don't put off going back to Camino - count your remaining weeks!

"Take care of your body as if you are going to live forever. Take care of your soul as if you are going to die tonight" Don't assume that all those incoming / remaining future weeks will be spent in the best of health.

Please talk me off the ledge

Blimey Mikeylats ! It sounds like you've been reading my diary from my first night in Pamplona! Troubles hemmed me in from every side. Or so I thought. My summary when I wrote it up several months later after having walked to Santiago. "Sometimes I get nervous / When I see an open door /...

    Porto places to stay?

If you want to stay near the centre then I can recommend the Hotel Peninsular. A little bit "faded Victorian glamour" but the beds were super comfortable*, the air conditioning was efficient and whisper quiet, with the window shutters closed the room was dark and silent. What more could you ask...

what to do with pack while in a cathedral

Waugh wasn't casting aspersions. It was a reference to the teaching that "Christ came to call sinners". Waugh understood that he wasn't going to church because he was good but because he needed to be good. There should be no offense taken from the quote

what to do with pack while in a cathedral

In rural churches, take it off before you enter and leave it just inside the door. If you feel the need to carry it around then at least take it off your back and carry it in your hands. Less chance this way of accidentally swiping people or inanimate objects with it. But a word of caution. I...
