Surprised at our test results poncho vs jacket

After having 5 + days in rain and sometime wind, I HATED my Altus poncho. Even though 55 degrees my sweat for all my clothes under the poncho was worse. Ended up soaked anyway and HOT. So too off the poncho and just got drenched. Next time I will wear a decathalon poncho.

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

I found the combination of the Altus poncho and the Houdini Patagonia windshell to be very practical. The Houdini is super lightweight and great as a windbreaker when not needing a rain solution. But when it rains long and hard, the Houdini under the Altus kept any condensation from my...

LIVE from the Camino Account of a very challenging day SJPdP to Roncesvalles (crazy weather)

Thank you for the update! If there is a lot of rain in the forecast, you might want to trade in your too small poncho for an Altus poncho. I did this mid-Camino one year and it made all the difference in the world to be dry and comfortable. Buen Camino!

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

Thank you all for the helpful information and sharing what worked best for you! I'm leaning toward taking either my Houdini wind jacket or Torrentshell rain jacket in addition to the Altus poncho. I'll make a final decision when packing, taking weight into consideration. (The Houdini is 3.4...

    Le Puy camino March/April 2025

I am starting to plan my Le Puy for spring 2025 as well - I don't mind the cold, but I worry about heavy rains and mud... I'm thinking of starting in Geneva even though I think it's not technically considered a Camino route (?), but haven't yet settled on whether to add the 3 extra weeks...

Raingear for late August early September

The back of the Altus "poncho" (it's really a raincoat), has snaps that collapse it to the size of a normal raincoat, not that long raincoats are particularly chic! The number of different ways you can wear it are the big draw for me. Leave the front open with arms out of the sleeves it's...

    Burgos - I need a poncho ....

Second (third?) vote for Altus Poncho. We just got back from the Norte and used Altus for the first time. They were wonderful. Very lightweight. Easy on/off. Kept us dry. (This was in cool weather. Can't say how they'd be in hot weather. But you don't have to zip them up. There are velcro...

    Poncho - Leon?

Decathlon. I wasn't impressed by my own Altus poncho. It was like a sweatsuit. Decathlon's MT900 poncho at least has pit zips and adjustable cuffs, which the Altus doesn't have.

Leg warmth - pants & layers for very cold days

Hello, I'm hoping to walk the Frances starting early April. I think I am prepared for upper body and head warmth, but I'm not sure about the lower body, if/when we experience snow or windy or rainy days. I plan to have an Altus poncho, which I assume will be low enough to help keep my thighs...

Rain gear on Ingles in beginning October

Thanks everybody for thier 5cent. More confused than before. Probably I won't get really cold on Ingles beginning of October, given the historical tempatures, but who knows. Anyway, it's a short Camino so I can have more or less an idea right before leaving. I think I will be joining pocho team...

Looking for suggestions where to find an Altus poncho - they are sold out everywhree!

Looking for any suggestions for where I might purchase a size small Altus poncho. I live in the U.S. and two years ago purchased mine on-line from a shop in Pamploma, and am looking to purchase another one. It seems they are sold out everywhere I look. Given that my search has come up empty...

Being prepared for the rain 🌧️

I prefer something like the Altus poncho/raincoat that covers everything, including my pack. They can now be purchased in the forum store https://www.santiagodecompostela.me/en-us/products/altus-poncho-atmospheric-h30?_pos=1&_sid=033317c31&_ss=r

    Poncho - Leon?

I went to 3 Decathlons in Madrid looking for that poncho for a friend and they didn't offer it in the poncho section. I wonder if it was in the women's section or only available in the UK?

Raingear for late August early September

I bring rain pants and a lightweight rain jacket like this... https://www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?cat_id=25013&p_id=2328169&gen_cd=1 I have a question for the poncho enthusiasts... what do you wear at night during rain in town? I have never, ever seen an Altus poncho on any hike/walk...

Is a pack liner a good idea or nah?

One good thing about a good pack liner (trash bag) is that it can be used to protect your pack from bedbugs. Get one large and strong enough to hold you things inside during the day and when you arrive take everything out, place it in your pack and then put your pack inside it the bag and close...
