Early morning sello in Ferrol

Due to a late arriving flight I'm planning on getting the early train from A Coruña to Ferrol which arrives just before 8am. Tourist office will be closed. Ideas please on where to get a first stamp near the starting point.

Any cafe. Worst case, somewhere like
the cafe attached to Hotel Almendra. Opens moderately early (7.00?). Good coffee and only a couple of blocks from the Camino on the route out of town.

You're right it doesn't but the 'recognized' starting point is actually at the port, just down the road from the information office.

Dick means your first night actually on the trail (eg Neda, Pontdeume) for your second stamp of the day. The first being any location that you find open in Ferrol.

The station master at Ferrol was very happy to provide me with the official seal of the FEVE. But that was a few years ago. Worth a try though.

By the time you’ve made your way to the port and the start point both the bars adjacent will be open and both will provide a sello to go with your coffee

By the time you walk from the train station to the tourist office, it'll be around 8:30AM. Have breakfast at a nearby bar and before you know it, it'll be 9AM and the office will be open.

My bus got in at 8:30. By the time I wandered to the start point and took the obligatory photo the lovely lady from the tourist office walked past and gathered me up a tad before 9. If you had a coffee/breakfast it will be 9 before you know it. Or as above just get one from any cafe. If it is of interest there is also a pilgrim blessing after the mass at 9 at km 111 Mon-Fri (our lady of Angustias).

Good work! Well I will write up a ‘end of tour’ report with an overview of any logistical bits and pieces so hope that helps and fell free to ask any questions ! I am not a planner and just have t shirts, shorts, a jumper, and a bucket hat, so hope it doesn’t rain.

Worst case scenario, tape your train ticket into your credential showing your arrival into Ferrol.

Yes, you can get the stamp at the Parador, which is right on the trail, going to or coming from the starting point.

This may be a replay of an old record, but it has been suggested to me that pilgrims get a sello from their home town parish or town hall, as that is where pilgrimages start. In Ferrol (where I've never been, but I imagine that it's like any other Camino town), you'll have no shortages of bars & cafés & hotels & police, who are quite accustomed to pilgrimages and who (in my experience) have always cheerfully complied.

A Spanish friend told me that if I had too many police sellos, the Pilgrim's Office just might assume that I am a pious desperado who cannot stay out of the hands of the authorities-- that will liven up their day, I responded.

There was a bar near the Naval base on the way out of town that was open early, had a stamp and more importantly, a café con leche. Walking out, bar on the left, base on the right. A bit vague but it’s hard to miss as nothing else was open that early.

I have just arrived at Ferrol this afternoon. It’s a lovely sunny day and just having lunch at a bar by the start point. My train from Madrid was late and I arrived at the tourist office at 1405 to get a credential and it closed at 1400. Clearly they don’t hang about as the place was deserted!! Gone down to the start point and the tourist office there keeps the same hours and is closed too, so won’t be open to 0900 tomorrow. They operate 0900 to 1400 daily and Friday, Saturday and Sunday they reopen in the afternoon. All is not lost though as there is a church here and just spoke to a chap who is doing some decorating work and he reckons I can get a credential here at 1700.

It’s really nice down here and puts you in the mood! There is the 113km sign, a Camino ingles stone and some artwork outside the tourist office.

Ah thank you! I will check that out if the plan doesn't work! No I am staying at the Hostal La Frontera in a ‘single room without window’!! Right in the centre. ! It’s fine and only cost €17. Private bathroom though and whilst check in is meant to be from 1600, the super friendly chap checked me in around 1415. I stayed in a dorm in Madrid last night and hardly slept so glad I have a private room tonight! Thanks again!

To close this one out, I went over to the church at 1720. ‘Credential guy’ hadn’t showed yet, but as I walked away, he emerged and so I secured a credential and stamp. A back up should your itinerary not match the tourist office!

The Cafe Sarga is right at the start point of the Camino ( on the portside) They will provide a stamp. It's pretty much next door to the Pilgrims Office

Ah just there now having a coffee before setting off. Some of the local chaps are cracking onto the liquor post shift but not me! Very little open even at 0730! Got a stamp here. Feel like I am following in the footsteps of greatness knowing you were here!

Anyway great place for folks to start the day. There is a €10 min on your card and the coffee is <€2 and you get a slab of cake gratis! 3 rucksacks on display and another chap has just got a stamp!

Edit! Yes couple of folks from Italy and two more from Spain. And another two as I type! Thought it would be just me!
