Planning to walk it in 2018 :)
Last minute thought to do the Coastal Portugues from Porto to Santiago.... What would be my best guide - I like paper option (old fashioned) but will settle for kindle. What is also the best way to get there (may be en route America to South Africa via Frankfurt).... Can I get a Credential with the guidebook (some offers that)?

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I just came back from that route, there are effectively 3 routes from Porto to Santiago. I got the Brierly guide from Amazon and the Wise Pilgrim apps. We did the coastal route and the 2018 Brierly guide has the coastal in it but earlier versions didn't . I got credentials at the cathedral in Porto its right in the middle of town and they charge 3euro. There are non stop flights on LH from FRA to OPO.

Hi Cecilia,

I ordered my Pilgrim passport through this site. But you're right: you can order a guidebook and get you're Credential with it. You can do that also on this site: https://www.santiagodecompostela.me...portugues-lisbon-porto-santiago-camino-guides

When I ordered my Credential, I received it within a week. So I think you're still in time.

Have a good Camino!

André
Thanks Andre, ordered the Brierley guide on Amazon - quicker delivery. Perhaps just get my Credential when i get there.... delivery seems slow to Hawaii ;)

So with the Coastal Route you mean the traditional Coastal route that winds inland - not the later Seaside route that is mostly by the ocean? Wonder which one is better? Love the ocean! But, also love mountains... so...?

Hi Andrew M, So with the Coastal Route you mean the traditional Coastal route that winds inland - not the later established Seaside route that is mostly by the ocean? Wonder which one is better? Love the ocean! But, also love mountains... so...?

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
We did the littoral route right by the sea from Porto to Esposende then the "normal" coastal route until it joins the central route at Redondela. Brierly has all the routes in it but not all the albergues, we used the Wise Pilgrim app and information I downloaded from this forum and the facebook group for that. Not really many pilgrims on this route 5 weeks ago, in fact sometimes we would go a day without seeing a single one. It got a lot busier when we rejoined the central route so i think the majority take that one. I guess they all have something special. One thing to consider is that the Albergues are more expensive on the coast than the Frances with 15euro seeming to be normal (I think the central is cheaper). Has anyone told you how gorgeous Porto is? Spend a full day there if you can.

Good info, Andrew W. I have Brierley's book of maps only and I agree it's really lacking albergue info! Can you tell me which specific Wise Pilgrim app you used for albergue info? I see "Wisely: The Camino Portuguese" and I see "Camino Portuguese." We are leaving on Sunday for Lisbon, then later from Porto we are hiking the Coastal Way/Central Way/Spiritual Way combo - I'm so excited!

Hard to tell the difference exactly. It is an red/orange colour icon with a white scallop shell at the bottom.
I also got a map App from them. It’s green with a green scallop shell . It was worth it for the beach route because we would have got lost without it a few times.

Yeah you should be excited it is special.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Thank you so much! I have purchased them as a bundle for $4.99. Can’t go too wrong with that!
