A combo of symbols representing portogallo (the gallo) and perhaps knight templar crosses as in tomar and the santiago shell?
Queen Isabel, the patron saint of portugal, is also depicted as a pilgrim to santiago (as shown at her monastery near coimbra. complete w/ shell and gourd)
the colours of the portuguese flag is red and green. i'd have some reference to that as well.

1. The Queen Isabel, is not the patron saint of Portugal, is Our Lady of Conception (Vila Viçosa)
2. The gallo not representing portogallo (is for tourist)
3. The patron saint of Portugal is Santo António de Lisboa
4. The first flag of Portugal was equal to the current flag of Finland (blue with a white cross)
5. The symbol which represents Portugal is the Cross of Christ.
6. The Cross of the Order of Christ has been since the time of discovery of the most important national symbols, although its origin is even more remote. The Red Cross of symmetrical stems, with an overlay white cross, was the symbol of the Military Order of Christ, founded by D. Dinis in 1317, following the extinction of the Knights Templar.

Indeed the Cross of Christ, adorned the sails of the caravels that explored the unknown seas and during the reign of King Manuel, due to intense maritime activity, the flag of the Order of Christ was often used as a Portuguese naval flag because it was large order linked to the expansion trips.

I am methodically ;-) I would first check the average size of the sellos and make sure the fields are big enough for them, SY

OK
The Queen Isabel, is POPULAR the patron saint of Portugal.
Officially is the Our Lady of Conception.
Because:
It is due to King John IV the fact that Our Lady of Conception was proclaimed Patron Saint of Portugal, for his proposal during the Cortes assembled in Lisbon from 28 December 1645 until 16 March 1646, stating the King "that the Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin "and pledging to donate in his name, in the name of his son and his successors to the Santa Casa da Conceição, in Vila Viçosa," fifty gold cross each year "as tribute signal and vassalage, to continue the devotion of D. Afonso Henriques, who had taken the Lady for personal lawyer and his successors.

I just made one for my husband and myself because we wanted something distinctly Portuguese (with a nod to Spain seeing as we'll end up there). Wishing I'd included blue-n-white tile somewhere and the cross previously mentioned.
Here's my five minute wonder:

5 minutes?!? Well, no doubt you don't mean that literally, but still. Kiwi-family, that's fantastic.
(BTW I hope you've entered a design for the new flag too!)

OK I exaggerated - it took about 15 minutes - all copy and paste from google images and my own photo from our first camino (which was also on our credencial for last year)
Don't get me started on our flag (nothing wrong with our current one IMHO - an opinion shared with over half the country I'd say!)

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 16-19
About the flag...I agree...and cringe at some of the suggested alternatives.
About the credencial...well, I'm still impressed!:)

I agree with the prior suggestions of space for six carimbos per page and accordion fold. I like the idea of the Cross of Christ. I was taken with the Portuguese coat of arms/flag and wouldn't mind seeing them included, maybe with equivalent heraldry from Galicia. I'm not sure what else would say "Portuguese" at a glance.

I like having the general overview map of the Portuguese routes, I didn't need the distances (which were only measured from Tui anyway) or maps of the other routes. I didn't use the map while walking, but it now comes in handy when I talk to people about my walk.

I loved my time walking in Portugal. I hope this project comes to fruition so I can carry a Portuguese credential with me the next time I walk there.

Very strong and sexy, with auburn hair, and when it got upset it would wave its hands in the air!

::I'm Portuguese::: grin:::

oh.. you said credential...

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Hi Kiwi-family.
Well done!
Please note two language corrections:
- In Portuguese is Caminho not Camino that is Spanish.
- Not "Por Cavalo" but "A Cavalo"
Wish you all an "Bom Caminho" in Portuguese and/or "Buen Camino" in Spanish :)

Thank you thank you thank you Mario - this was exactly what I wanted!!!! I had already noticed the caminHo example but did not know if the situations I had seen it were just because of some grammatical change. I had no idea about the A Cavalo, but did not want ot put too much faith in googletranslate! Thanks for pointing this out - I'm off to fix it now!

Tricky language to trust on google translator.
Sorry for that! And also should be google translator ;(
You can send me your final fixes by pm and will review it.
Bom Caminho

Is it OK to NOT use capital letters?.....
