Continuing on from a previous thread, does anyone have a telephone number/email of a reliable taxi company who won't rip me off in Bilbao.
Have looked at Google and the average price to get to Roncesvalles is between €390 - €500 which I am finding a tad steep!! I have also seen that Uber and Cabify are not too popular around Bilbao!
Thanks all

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
www.expressbourricot.com are well recommended but also charge 400€ for that trip.
You could check blablacar for a rideshare or take the bus, both will be significantly cheaper.

I'm assuming that the quotes are based on the distance including the journey both ways. Most unlikely that the driver could find a passenger for the return journey to Bilbao. That's about 400km. A fee around 1€ per km does not sound so excessive to me.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
I used Uber in Bilbao to get from and to the airport. It worked great.
It's the only airport I've seen with dedicated Uber spots in the parking garage!

That said, they probably only operate in and around Bilbao - I would take a bus to Roncesvalles.

Not sure if Uber exists in Bilbao... in any case, it's a two and a half hour drive to SJPdP. then he/she has to drive back. maybe get closer to SJPdP by public transport and grab a taxi there (Eg. Irún).

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-

What would a taxi in your part of the world charge for a 400 km trip? That would be at least an 8 hour day for the driver, plus fuel and car maintenance. I would also find €390 - €500 to be too steep for my budget, except in an emergency, but I wouldn't consider it to be a rip-off.

Continuing on from several recent posts… why are so many people setting out to venture Camino with complex and expensive initial journeys?

@judydaisy you could save yourself a heck of a lot of hassle and the budget for a couple of nights in a Parador if you just took the Bilbao to Pamplona bus and started walking from Pamplona. Otherwise there are twice daily buses from Pamplona to Roncesvalles. But, if you really want to make a taxi drivers day. Go ahead. €400-500 is the going rate.

Thanks to all who have answered. I agree that it is probably a reasonable price but… no harm in asking. Yes, I know there is a bus Bilbao - Pamplona and a bus Pamplona Roncesvalles but the later leaves midday and there is no way that people arriving at 18.30 to Bilbao airport are going to make it!! They also have accommodation booked for that first night.
Anyway, I guess they will just have to bite the bullet and get a taxi. I arrive at 10.30 am so I will be on both buses…
Thanks

I wasn’t saying it was a rip off but a woman travelling alone can be ripped off or at least this is what experience has taught me. Thanks anyway

Does anyone know about how much a taxi would charge for 10 km?
Thanks

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

People’s desires and intentions are always a source of astonishment for me. Wheels on the ground at Bilbao at 18:30. Maybe cleared all the gates by 19:30.

So, a reasonable hostal in Bilbao, somewhere close to the intermodal, first bus in the morning to Pamplona. Midday bus to Roncesvalles. They end up maybe 4 or 5 hours behind the original “plan”. Or they can buy that time back at €100/hour

I know time is precious for some, but that precious?

I hear you but each one does what is best for them. I only asked a question on behalf of others. What they do is up to them, not me and I for one won't be judging them, each to their own.

Thanks for all the contributions

Hmm, your original post implied that you were seeking a solution to a costly transport dilemma for yourself. Now it’s not you but them.

I don’t judge either. I just wallow in the mire of despair 😉
