Stayed the first time 2014 and walked by next in 2016.
It was a good way to get friends directly from the start to stay for an afternoon and night, people that you run into now and then during the Camino.
Second time in 2016 we were a bit more prepared and didn't have any problems walking directly to Roncesvalles
If you are starting your journey from St. Jean Pied De Port, I would strongly suggest staying at Orisson.
I arrived from US late eve and started walking the next morning with vigor (more enthusiasm than anything else) with little sleep, food, and full-on jet lag.
I stopped at Orisson for a quick bite and charged on ahead. By the time I arrived at Roncesvalles, my feet were a mess with blisters, and could hardly walk. I seriously considered quitting right there and then. I went as far as Burgos, but every step was an excruciating pain.
I plan to continue and finish, but I would definitely take my time and enjoy more and hurt less.
not compulsory but a good idea if you are doing the camino for the first time. it reduces the shock! I am a 62 year old man with Parkinsons disease and I did it in a day no problem but if you are unsure of your ability then it's a good idea, it prevents pre camino anxiety! main thing is to relax and take time to look at the view and buen camino

Hi! I too have Parkinson’s (56 had PD 6 years) - in sept 2018 I walked from Sarria to Santiago (over 5 days) but I’d love to go back and walk the Frances from SJJP but have concerns as to whether I can do it? My main issue walking last time was blisters but if I can avoid them hopefully I’ll be ok .. but I’ve never done a big walk like this before so not sure how my body will cope? I sound like I have ‘pre-Camino anxiety’!! (Haha) Did you manage ok? I’d love some feedback ..
