Of course we assist, but there is another problem: most taxidrivers cannot come to the albergue (on weekdays) before 4.30 / 5.00 pm because during the afternoon they are busy collecting local children from school and bring them home.

I agree. What is important is to make the precaution an automatic practice. Then you don't need to be constantly weighing the risks and worrying about them.
Yes, much to our regret it is like that. 183 of the 245 beds can be pre-booked, and in busy times (like these first weeks of May) they are all booked, every day. That is why I always recommend to make a reservation.

As regards apps, you might want to add the Mapy.cz app, especially if you are walking alone. Using the outdoor map, you will see the entire camino. Additionally, you can download the map of Spain, so you don't need wifi for real time navigation.
I do find it very hard to understand the business of going all the way to Pamplona then taking a bus through Roncesvalles and Valcarlos just to turn around and walk back the same direction! There are plenty of equally (or more) interesting views...
