I'm looking for resources on exercises I can do to prepare for the camino as well as stretches to do during the journey. Thanks!

There are a multitude of opinions re how to train (or not) for the camino. To start check out the posts on this earlier Forum thread.

Happy research and Buen camino!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I alternated 18-20km training walks locally over varying terrain except no Roman roads, but farm roads, tarmac, dusty cow trails and rocky roads with climbing a local bald mountain. That increase in hill training for this Camino made that hill west of Castrojerez a piece of cake!

I've been building up slowly and getting back to walking a few miles here and there. My main training will be later this summer, and prior to doing the camino I will be breaking in my boots by hitting the trans pennine trail. My plan is to just walk the section from Sheffield to above Hull in around 5 days as a warmup.

I think trekking up the odd mountain mioght be useful too. Im planning Snowdon and Tryfan for some point in July.

I might add I also hit the gym 3-7 times a week, often do 4-5 miles on the treadmill, but just have a problem with finding time to actually go out and walk 20 miles. [moan] Its not simple if you work 5 days and are generally wanting to spend day 6 recovering from day 1-5. [/moan]

I think when I start my camino, that will be some of the training. Their wont be the worry/excuse of work, just the road. I will simply walk as far as i can, then rest, then maybe walk some more or bail out for the day. After a few days i will fully get into it.

I train ON the Camino, and I think many people do the same, despite good intentions.

Yeah, isn't that the truth! We leave for the Camino in a couple weeks and haven't walked nearly as much as we had planned. Life just stacked up and got in the way of our best intentions. We are reasonably fit people, so I am not worried about it, I just wish we had been able to do more walks and hikes in the past several months.

Yeah. Just take the first four days reeeeal slow and easy. That's where most people injure themselves.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Ok, I am kind of embarrassed to say this, but this French girl who I walked with last year by happenstance on the Frances made me do this every night after we finished the daily walk... She always laughed when it came to the part about stretching my arm past my pony... as in pony tail. Obviously meant for a female audience, but I like the fact I got a good stretch "on"... I continued it at home for my regular training... shhhhh!
