Is it possible to buy locoid cream over the counter in a pharmacia?
It’s the one thing I might need - but most likely won’t - and if I knew I could get it easily in Spain I would not take any.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

When are you leaving? I’m going to Spain beginning of May and could ask but someone else may have the answer before then.

:::chuckle::: I'm a nurse in the US, and I went through a couple of Google pages to identify what you were talking about.

This locoid corticosteroid cream (Hydrocortisone butyrate) appears to be by prescription in NZ and in the US ... our OTC creams and lotions aren't the same concentration or the same formula. Spain also has hydrocortisone creams that appear to be OTC, but they don't appear to be the same as locoid.

Ask your own pharmacist before you go if your locoid is the same as OTC topical hydrocortisone creams, but my guess is no.

Further to your comments and good advice to consult with one's own pharmacist and FWIW:

A list of medications authorised for marketing in Spain is here (Spanish government website):
https://cima.aemps.es/cima/publico/lista.html

There is no product with Locoid in its name on this list.

There are not even any creams with the ingredient hidrocortisona butirato in the list of currently available medications in Spain.

Spain has regional health boards. What you can buy over the counter in one area may need a prescription in another. Cocodamol pain killers being a prime example - available in Murcia but not without prescription in the north.

Best advice is take a part used tube and a prescription from your Dr.

BTW, for future reference because the question of availability of pharmaceutical products comes up from time to time, here is a link to all the national databases for authorised medicines for the EU. You can see for example that Locoid cream 0,1% is commercialised in France and in Portugal but not in Spain. You can search for the name of a product or for the main ingredient (such as hydrocortisone butyrate in this case).

Hello, I would love some counsel from anyone regarding some really bad plantar fasciitis that I’ve been starting to experience during training in my right foot. I’m planning to do the Camino...
