I am planning my trip for 2019. Just wondering if there is any need for a light weight tent for camping? My wife may struggle off the start and I was thinking I may need to stop prior to reaching the next town. Is this an option?

@joec, welcome to the forum. If by 'the start' you mean St Jean pied de la Porte - it isn't the start, never has been, its just where a few of the popular guidebooks to the Camino Frances in Spain choose to begin their narrative. Search 'camping' using the forums search facility and you will discover why most would regard that as a non-viable solution to your problem. Have a look at this resource: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/com...lbergues-on-the-camino-frances-in-one-pdf.10/ and you will see why it is completely unnecessary.

There is a frequent and vast range of accommodation facilities along the route, baggage transfer services and good public transport services on many stretches.

Spend a little time researching the route, I am sure you will find the comfort you need.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I camped on the French route. It's not practical really but it was handy for getting away from crowded hostels. I often took the way less travelled when there was the option. It's not necessarily legal to wild camp in Spain. I often asked in the small towns and villages and never had a problem. The trouble with a tent is carrying it. I travel ultra-light when I can. Even a UL tent weighs SOMETHING. Remember the adage: ounces make pounds, pounds make pain.
Ultraia!

My guess is your wife would struggle even more after a night in a tent vs a bed. Wild camping is illegal in Spain anyways, so a bit of a non issue.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
