Last time I looked at their website it hadn't been updated for many years and like many low costs/low expertise sites didn't use https and so every time anyone tried to access it they get a warning about a dangerous website. These days I have difficulty even finding the website.they had a website, not sure if it is still running
Oh wow. I stayed at this place. One of my most important days/evening on the Camino. I'll never forget rolling up to the building around 11:00 am, injured and exhausted, and completely done walking for the day. I simply could not go on, and was so disappointed in myself. The doors weren't even open yet. But one of the Sisters exited the church and saw me, called me over. Without words (neither of us spoke the other's language) and instead with tears, I communicated my situation. She kissed me on both cheeks, hugged me, and told me to stay and rest. It was the compassion and welcome I needed in more ways than one.
It's another long story, but I still have the "lucky" [expresso] spoon the hospitalero, Alfie, gave me the next morning when I left. I walked away from Zabaldika with an unsteady self-assurance, but more compassion and hope than when I arrived.
I still have the spoon to this day. It's on my night stand.
Does anyone have the mailing address for this place? Would love to send a card.
Add a post-it note with a red glitter heart as well. They'll know what to do with it.Does anyone have the mailing address for this place? Would love to send a card.

These women are angels, is all I have to say.I had better stop, as it is a fairly well kept secret
Oh I do hope so. I was very fortunate to spend my 65th birthday at Zalbaldika. I hope to return there in the next year or so. What a lovely group of sisters and hospitaleros.I have read elsewhere that Zabaldika albergue opens 1st July - is it true?!
It would be wise to double, double check. We thought we had an email confirmation for June 15th but when we called on that day we were told they were closed.I have read elsewhere that Zabaldika albergue opens 1st July - is it true?!
I'm not sure I understand. They don't take reservations. Was this an email confirmation that they were open?email confirmation
The message says that the church is open, but the albergue will only open on July 1st. Due to personnel absence, it may be that at the end of July the albergue will be closed for perhaps ten days - when I know the precise dates I will post them. The church will continue to be opened daily. If you use the email address provided above by Sabine if you want to check, you will get a response. No matter what, there is no option to reserve a bed, except when you arrive, and you put your rucksack in the line before lounging in the garden. It opens either at 2 or 2.30 after the hospitaleros have cleaned up, done the shopping, had lunch...Este año hemos abierto la Iglesia y ya empiezan a venir peregrinos pero el Albergue no lo abriremos hasta el 1 de julio.
Thankyou so much for this informationOn 6th May this is part of what I received from the community in an email:

For those who do not know the location - it is at the top of a short, steep hill. There are no shops or bars. Bliss. If you are looking for rural, you have found it in spades!!!
For pilgrims who stay, a meal is offered in the evening, and breakfast in the morning. For those who pass on, there is a drinking water tap, and the opportunity to use the bathroom in the community house.
