Canadian artist Josee Vandeguchte will be premiering her new book and a collection of paintings featured in the same publication.
"Come walk with me Santiago" tells the story of Vandeguchte's 2006 journey to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Vandeguchte documents her 30 days of walking over 800 kilometres. She also took photos and made sketches of the sights.
"It's a wonderful experience," she said of the Christian pilgrimage route. "You really have to be there to feel it. You leave everything behind -- it's just you and good old earth."
When she returned to her home in Sarnia, Vandeguchte began writing and putting images on canvass. Vandeguchte said she was proud to take the adventure all on her own.
A total of 23 paintings will be showcased at the Lawrence House, along with her book, beginning with a First Friday reception, Aug. 1.
