The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
@pilgrim b Oh my, how beautiful is that!
Hi Kanga it was the third Dale we had walked over in the day and that path gave you no indication of the view when you reached the top. Thank you for your comments.

Small circular walk of 6k. On call for work so not far away from home.
In general very busy at work so not much walking but next week I will be on holidays for three weeks.

Visited Tongeren in Belgium yesterday , must say it is a lovely place to be.

The visit to the TESEUM was the highlight off the day.

Made quite a impression on me and at the end I spend some time in the garden .

IMG_1466.webp IMG_1467.webp IMG_1465.webp IMG_1464.webp I am still nursing my feet after the very long walk in the mountains some time ago...So this day walk was a short one in the neighborhood. Found some berries and there is still some color on the heather. The stones form the words "god tur" which means Buen Camino. A nice greeting!

Holoholo automatically captures your footpaths, places, photos, and journals.
The bog of frogs loop, Howth, Dublin. Usually this is well populated, but the other day that was not the case. No wind, no rain, enough sunshine. Lovely. This is my training ground.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
@Peter Fransiscus : Enjoy it to the fullest, you traveller :).
I see you visited chocolatier Dominique Persoone..njommie njommie..Especially the choccies with piment d' Espelette or the ones with sake or the ones with fried onion or or...;)
Hi Sabine , it's indeed diffecult to make a choice.
Wish you well,Peter.

We are back from a week in Sevilla, no Camino though but we did some long citywalks.
It was still 36 Celsius so brutal conditions for a Camino there imho.
Now back to the regular local walks.
It rained alot this week but today was dry and perfect temperature for a walk.
Passed a typical farm with the painted doors and I guess in two weeks time the first autumn colours will appear on the trees.

Hey Peter, just curious: would that lake be Schwarzsee, near Kitzbühel? If it is, that would be a funny coincidence, because that is where I will be in 3 months time...

No , it was the Piller See at the other side off the mountains at Fieberbrun.
Near the village of Sint Ulrich .

Yesterday - in our waning days of summer - the weather was too good to pass up. I grabbed a Car2Go, drove up the Sea to Sky highway and went hiking. Here is the first glimpse of Lake Garibaldi and Helm Glacier - three hours, nine kilometres and elevation gain of 810 m. And then the three hour trek back down. I can still do it..........Yaaaay!!!
My first solo hike. :):):)

Whenever I come back to this thread I am always amazed at how beautiful everyones 'back yard' is... the world is such a beautiful place isnt it!

I walked along a little bit of the Vezeley today around Perigueux and Chancelade... my last outing before I head off to Lisbon and the Rota Vicentina... but I might spend another 5 minutes browsing through every ones photos before I do anything else

Our weather is still spectacular and I was so inspired by my trek last week that I set off again today - same Garibaldi area but this time to the alpine meadows at the base of Black Tusk. Caught a bit of wild life this time - that black blob is a bear feeding up on blueberries for his upcoming hibernation.

Thanks for photos. I will use them today to show a couple of literacy students what ‘fall’ looks like.

It's a while since I've looked at this thread - such a pleasure to flick through everyone's photos. A vicarious walking trip around the world before my breakfast! Thanks everyone for sharing - and special thanks to @kirkie for bringing back memories of my home turf.
Maybe some day, weather permitting, a trot around the Bog of Frogs loop? Just let me know. My trot takes a while though, about 3 and a half hours.

That sounds good - I love that walk. I'm snowed under with work at the moment (post-camino backlog!), but will hopefully see light at the end of that tunnel soon.

Thanks everyone. Not much to contribute at the moment but just to say thanks! This thread is a relief from everything else the world is doing, and a nudge - reminding me that there are many good things happening out there too.
Gorgeous pics from far and wide. Love that bear, @Icaros, and the autumnal berry leaves!

Just finished a long work contract and am so happy to have some days now to wander a bit. Today a nice cool, autumn walk along the Fraser River and farmland paths to the wonderful, quirky little community of Finn Slough and then home again.

My walk today - enjoying the signs of autumn along the river and the paths around a nearby cranberry bog where the harvest has started. Snow geese have arrived! Our area is a migratory wintering ground.

My wife dislikes cities. I don't. That can be somewhat difficult sometimes. But, as with a lot of things, you can arrange events to everyone's liking by balancing stuff. So I really wanted to visit Paris with my wife one day, just for the heck of it, but she wasn't really interested. It took just over 20 years of marriage, but last weekend we pulled it off!
We stayed in Maffliers, a half hour trainride north of Paris, and did some nice hikes in the forrests in that area for the first day and a half. The weather couldn't have been better, the colours of fall were exuberant and all was well.
And on monday, yesterday, we finally walked along the Seine together. We looked at Monet's water lilies at the Musée de l'Orangerie, sauntered through Quartier Latin and Montmartre and very much enjoyed a sunny, cloudless and warm Paris.
It can be done.

We had a stormy walk yesterday with friends in Zeeland.
We also visited the museum about the big flood of Februari 1 , 1953.
We all hope that a flood like the one in 1953 never happen again.

Wish you all well,Peter.20171028_124953.webp

Hoi Sabine, glad you found your jacket.

It was the first dry day this week over here.

You probably enjoy a nice beer out that great looking beertap.

Wish you well,Peter.

Sabine and Peter, your sympathy is just lovely! Trouble is, it was my diary that was preventing me from walking! I have only just had another look at this post and seen your messages, you are very kind. Next time I get out for a good walk, I will take your encouragement with me...

today started off bright and clear, so I headed out the door... and here is what I saw... and as I walked along, I thought of how my walking was contributing to my prep for my next camino... and when I was drinking the sopa de puerros I found at the market, made by un chico de Vizcaya, I thought, well, at least a taste of the country if not the actual terrain!!

I walked to New Zealand’s tallest tree, which - wouldn’t you know it! - is an Australian eucalypt! Thrilled to see four different native birds I’ve never seen before too.
Then a quick walk to Tunnel Beach.

I walked to New Zealand’s tallest tree, which - wouldn’t you know it! - is an Australian eucalypt! Thrilled to see four different native birds I’ve never seen before too.
Then a quick walk to Tunnel Beach.
Oh! How beautiful. In the goodness of creation, the original author, by analogy, is seen....

When I travelled through Australia I can't tell you how many times I heard the phrase "this is the largest / deepest / widest / tallest / biggest" whatever it was, in the world or at least in the southern hemisphere. The Ozzies are very fond of their big things.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

@Kiwi-family is not an Aussie, @Purky .
There's a world of difference. ;):D:cool:
Not to worry, you are probably the 37,956,811,230th person to make this mistake.
(And stop it, @Kiwi-family ! You're making me homesick. Your pics are more gorgeous than gorgeous. I hope you are all enjoying your time down south!)
Edit...coming to this thread again after a long time away is such a delight. Thank you for sharing your pics, everyone! I have no nature to walk in here, so it is lovely to see.

I know Kiwi-family is not an Ozzie: first off I am quite aware of what a Kiwi is, and secondly her post clearly states that she is walking in New Zealand. I was merely refering to the fact that I noticed a great fondness of big things by Ozzies when I was there. In that light I find it amusingly fortuitous when you learn that New Zealand’s tallest tree is in fact an Australian eucalypt. Or so I thought... But then again, my sense of humor is often found opaque (or incomprehensible, I never know which ).

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Sorry, Purky, I took what you said in the wrong way.
Yeah, it's definitely a delicious irony!

That's alright, VNwalking. It's all fun and games (until someone misplaces a tree).

(until someone misplaces a tree)
Well that was me. Mea culpa - and thank you for your good humor about it.:)

Fortunately the tree is perfectly happy in its simple and statuesque tree-ness, with no experience at all of what we are blathering on about (at least I assume so...but who really knows?)

@VNwalking if it’s any consolation there were other trees nearby that we reckon looked taller (but they were all Australian too).
After a spate of nasty interactions earlier this year it’s nice to see this little miscommunication get cleared up so kindly.

In my mind there was never even a shadow of a doubt that this little miscommunication wouldn't get cleared up quick and elegant. After reading many of the posts of VNwalking I am of the opinion she is kindness incarnate.

Even more : this sharing place is nothing but kindness.
Already looking forward to starting the 2018 thread.:)

Thanks to everyone for contributing.

Ahhhh, you are all the best. It's not me, it's us. That's what keeps it civil here.
I have no stable neighborhood, so get a lot of pleasure in seeing the seasonal ebb and flow of everyone else's. (Note to self: check this thread more often! And remember to contribute...)

I've spent the last week up in Australia's alpine country (yes, we do have it) doing some bushwalking. Beautiful. Here are a couple of photos:

Oh, and yes - we did walk all the way up that track!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
My pics from a walk today take no prizes for beauty. A walk around the village~
Past the big brass bells that wake us up (and the cats who get to sleep it off), and then out the front gate and down the road...taking in the late afternoon's activity in the neighborhood: the athletic young men, playing chinlon...lots of little shops and families...the teens with one foot in the old and one in the new...oh, and it's 'puppy season'...
Not gorgeous snowy mountains down under or early winter landscapes in Belgium...it's just here, and it's just fine. ;)

Another walk to the back side of the village, on a hot and humid afternoon. There is no cool season this year, at least not yet.

And this cracked me up. Superman gets around, and on roller blades, no less. (I have never seen either here before. The times they are a changing....)

It's snowing! Been at least two years since we've seen snow in my neck of the woods and it shows: full orange alert in the media. Don't drive if you don't have to, less trains and a bit of a panicky mood.

Outside all these warnings seemed to have worked. Empty streets, cars creeping along at walking pace. People shuffling slowly and carefully, all bundled up. We are simply not used to this in Holland anymore.

I was happy that I had to go shopping. A short walk to the supermarket through fresh snow, what's not to like. But not everyone shares my delight. I heard a lot of bickering and complaining, and saw scrunched up and unhappy faces all around.

Fortunately I wasn't alone. I smiled at the shrieks and laughter of the kids in the residential area I walked through, and laughed out loud at the young guy who received a fluffy snowball squarely on the back of his head, thrown by his girlfriend. Live it up, guys!

Gorgeous, @Purky! Lucky you...snow!!
Well my day was not a long walk, but it took me to the heart-centre of the city if not the entire country, a huge and glorious Pagoda. It was thronged with people. It always is, but there's such a special atmosphere of peace there, and amidst the many smaller pagodas, there is always a quiet corner to reflect.
The ladies in the amazing traditional dress are Shan, and had come from very far away. Pilgrims here look much more elegant than the ones we're familiar with in Spain. :D20171210_143445.webp20171210_150017.webp 20171210_150545.webp 20171210_151115.webp

All other provinces in this country have snow today but we only rain, couple degrees above zero, lots of rain and strong cold wind.
Went out for a small circular walk but I kept it to 33 minutes :D and 4000 steps ;)
I had such days on the Meseta this year in March but I guess the vibes are different on such an occasion!
Pics taken at 1.30 pm local time...will not get any brighter I guess.

I walked to New Zealand’s tallest tree, which - wouldn’t you know it! - is an Australian eucalypt!
I've hiked several times decades ago to visit what was then identified as the tallest tree in the world, a coastal redwood (368 feet/112 meters.) The top has fallen off since and the location of the new tallest tree is being kept secret. There is a new trail to the Tall Trees Grove where the tree stands with others nearly as tall. This trail is a bit longer than a mile starting from an old logging road and so the grove gets a fair number of visitors now. But then you had to hike 8 miles up Redwood Creek to see it. On my second visit I was the only one there. Just as I reached the spot where the grove was in sight across the creek I heard long crashing noises followed by more crashing noises like you might hear in a cartoon and then, because the redwoods have tall trunks before the limbs start, I was able to see a limb the size of a small tree fall dozens of feet to the ground. A wonderful backcountry experience.

[EDIT: I just remembered that by my third backpack trip (in 1992 with Peg) the short trail had been created. The tree by that time was defaced, the bark all the way around the trunk was scraped, by the increased number people who had "climbed" the tallest tree in the world.]

These are lovely, Peter! There's nothing like the austere and simple beauty of winter.
(Hee, hee...is that a hill, or is it just an optical illusion?)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
