Volunteering as hospitaleros

Hi all,

I enjoyed my first Camino this spring so much that I should like to “give something back” by volunteering as a hospitalero, hopefully next year. As a Spanish speaker I think I would be more useful in Spain, but don’t mind which Camino route it is.

Other than the albergues at Gaucelmo And Miraz, run by the CSJ in the U.K. which I understand are already fully staffed for 2025, does anyone know of any others that might be looking for volunteers?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Check Hosvol.

Or ask forummember @Rebekah Scott who is organising hospis in different albergues.

Good luck!

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Hi Tim. I notice from your profile that you’re from UK. I don’t think HosVol run courses there, but as a Spanish speaker, you’d be able to take one of their courses in Spain. You can check out dates/locations on the website.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

The lovely albergue in Astorga always need hospitaleros. Contact Anita for a 15-day spot hospitalerosasociacion@gmail.com

Hi Tim. There are still a few volunteer spaces at Miraz for 2025. Please contact the CSJ office for further details.

I served as a hospitalero in Astorga at the Albergue de peregrinos Siervas de Maria for two weeks in Oct. It is a wonderful albergue and it was a fantastic experience. Contact Anita at asociacion@caminodesantiagoastorga.com

There are usually spaces available somehow. The Camino Frances Federation is joining up their hospitalero staffing so when someone puts up his hand, there's a place for him. If he's finished a camino and is in good health he can volunteer, if he's willing to be trained by an experienced fellow hospi. (No expensive weekend course required so far. )
I am still looking for volunteers for summer 2025, if you're willing, please get in touch: rebrites@yahoo. com.
