Thinking I will start the VF in Lausanne mid June and walk to Rome. This is my 4th long walk since 2022, I think I have the bug! I understand the VF is a road less traveled but am hopeful that I will meet others along the way. Any advice, suggestions of favorite places you stayed, or questions regarding my previous walks.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
I am using a combination of Gronze.com, Lightfoot Guide, and Cicerone Guide to plan our much shorter Lucca to Siena in February. I am finding that there seem to be a good variety of places to stay both in the stage towns and the in between towns. Despite it being winter, I am getting very prompt responses to my inquiries and there are quite a lot of places open. I expect it will be busier when you start your walk. I will post a live thread about our walk through Tuscany. We are doing this sampler to see how we like the route and whether we want to expand our hospitalero volunteering to Italy in the future.

I am going to add that it is a little more expensive than my Spain pilgrimages for housing. Part of this may be winter and I am seeing that 5 euros extra is added for heating in some places.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I think I may have that same bug! This is on my list, but likely not until 2026 or more likely 2027, I've got other long ones planned before then - working up to longer distances! I'd like to start in Canterbury, but that creates issues around the 90 day Schengen rule, which might not be a problem for you if you're starting in Lausanne. I'm at very preliminary stages of planning, but did some research on long stay visas, focusing on France, which I think I'll need to do the entire trip.

Eager to follow your Camino from a distance - when will you start? I've so far purchased the Cicerone guides, but the Lighthouse ones are on my list as well.

We started our Via Francigena in September 2022 in Lucca; the lovely smallish city of 90,000. It has a gorgeous ancient aqueduct, walkable ramparts around the historical area and I loved climbing it's clock tower with beautiful views of the city; my top three touristy picks. You will wish you could keep on walking as there is so much more beauty to be enjoyed along the way.
We used the Cicerone guidebook, and the official Via F. app, which we found very helpful.

Yes, I have that app, but so far I haven't used it much. Maybe as we are walking.
