Time of past OR future Camino
October (2017)
Planning on starting the Camino in Leon this October and wondered where I should fly into from Atlanta Georgia, Barcelona or Madrid or someWhere else? And then how to get to Leon from there?

Hi Laurie I think your best option is to fly direct ATL to Madrid and the take the train to Leon (renfe via rail Europe). Barcelona may not have direct flights but it would also work as a train depart location.

Madrid, and then the bus from the airport. Or if you want more hassle, or the bus schedules aren't optimal, take the Cercanias train into downtown Madrid and take the train to Leon from there.

Join the Camino cleanup. Logroño to Burgos May 2025 & Astorga to OCebreiro in June
Thank you for your advice
After checking out Madrid and Barcelona, the train travel time seems like a better option as far as getting to Leon the quickest. The waiting to begin will be at an all time high by then as I can barely wait to begin now.

We are going from ATL to Madrid, spending the night in Madrid. The following day, the Renfe train to Pamplona. We will then board theALSA bus for St JPP, arriving in time to spend the evening. Buen Camino!

Renfe Cercanias or Madrid Metro from Madrid Airport to Madrid Chamartin station.

Renfe train from Madrid Chamartin to Leon.

Alternatively ALSA provides bus service from Estacion Sur to Leon with some buses stopping at Madrid Airport and at Moncloa. Take Renfe Ceracanias or Madrid Metro from Madrid Airport to station Alvaro Mendez which is co-located with Estacion Sur.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.
