Hi there!
Please let me introduce myself and invite you to write a review:
This week I was very happy to discover this beautiful site and to read the comments of Veteran Poster sillydoll who was so kind to write regarding “King's 1920 classic now online” on 14 Jan 2008, 17:27 'There is also a Blog devoted to her at: http://king-early-days.blogspot.com. And devoted I am!
For me it all started some 20 years ago with the making of the second leg (the first begins in Amsterdam) of the Dutch “Pelgrimspad” from ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Bois-le-Duc in Dutch Brabant) to Visé, just across the Belgian border near Maastricht. In those beautiful days I worked as a professional pilgrim in the Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB [our AA or AAA].
After making the route description for the walking guide in 1979 I was asked to develop this long distance walk into a true Pilgrim’s Path leading to the connecting Routes Saint-Jacques to Santiago de Compostela through Belgium and France. It was opened in 1983 * under the auspices of the “Council of Europe, Cultural Routes”. After my first travel to Santiago as a tourist in 1988 the reading of Ms King’s masterpiece changed my life.
In Holland we follow with great interest the revival of Ms King's classic ‘The Way of Saint James’ and I do my share on my website http://www.pelgrimspaden.nl in seven weblogs now (more will follow with next reviews):
http://king-early-days.blogspot.com completely in English and the following merely in Dutch:
http://king-renaissance.blogspot.com
http://pilgrimsplaza-king-index.blogspot.com full text index
http://pilgrimsplaza-king-1.blogspot.com
http://pilgrimsplaza-traplepuy.blogspot.com
http://pilgrimsplaza-king3.blogspot.com with a review in English
http://pilgrimsplaza-ramiro-1.blogspot.com 10 fantastic Ramiro strip books (comics)!
and I just found this for quick and easy browsing through all flat texts of The Way of Saint James:
http://elcaminosantiago.com/PDF/Way_of_ ... mes_01.txt - Volume I
http://elcaminosantiago.com/PDF/Way_of_ ... mes_02.txt - Volume II
http://elcaminosantiago.com/PDF/Way_of_ ... mes_03.txt - Volume III
On my homepage http://pilgrimsplaza.blogspot.com I describe under “Ik zie, ik zie, wat gij niet ziet...!?” the discovery in the Portico de la Gloria of a great little secret concerning the apostel's twin aspect. After sitting in the narthex for about an hour with my back against the wall Master Matthew's simpel and clear stone bible message hit me hard! Has anyone else seen it yet?
Half a dozen pilgrim friends have already contributed a dozen reviews and we invite you to join the club by contributing a new review. The new reprints (see http://king-early-days.blogspot.com in English) create a wonderful opportunity! You’ll find my mail address in the first Comment under each blog.
Yours,
Geert Bakker
