Stay in Biarritz or get to Bayonne

Hello! I will be arriving in Biarritz at 16:30 on March 29 2016. I plan on spending a night somewhere, before heading to StJPP ( in an effort to fend off JetLag). Anyone think I can and sho9uld make my way to Bayonne for the night? Better/cheaper places to stay? Easier access to StJPP the next day? Can I even make it to Bayonne in time for a nice relaxing dinner and a good nights sleep?
I appreciate all the great advice you pilgrims have !!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
gypsywind,
You will have plenty of time to get to Bayonne before night. Take the bus from the Biarritz airport to Bayonne Gare, ie the Bayonne railroad station. There are several hotels near the station. An inexpensive, small favorite is the Hotel Monte Carlo which faces the station and also has a cafe/restaurant. See http://hotel-montecarlo.allcommerces.com/

Buen camino!

Hello,

Might you consider going to SJPdP for the night? This way, you can arrive in the evening, find lodging, rest up the next day and explore the smaller village (compared to Biarritz/Bayonne) and start your walk the next day. Another option is to go to SJPdP, stay at alburgue, and then take short walk to Orisson (need to book ahead of time) in the afternoon arriving in evening for dinner and friendships.

These are something to consider. No matter your choice, you are on your way. That's a good thing.

Keep a smile,
Simeon

Biarritz is more expensive and less interesting than Bayonne. Get a hotel by the train station and find some good regional food along the river. There are several good Basque places.

Have a look at Le Petit Hotel in Biarritz, a lovely little hotel near the beach and with many places to eat nearby. I have stayed here, as have other members, and found it very reasonable with lovely English speaking staff.

thanks so much, my head is spinning as lots to arrange. I only decided to start this adventure a few weeks ago, im sure it will all fall into place, as it always has on my many adventures around the globe. Only this trip feels diffrent to any other, i want to take stock of my life as ive been a a bit lost over the last few years. i guess we all want to have a stream lined trip but half the fun of life on the road is the uncertainty, but as we all have way to many layers of structures in our lives its hard to break free, and i guess this is one of the many things i want to look at in my life journey. thanks again xNigel

Welcome Nigel, yes everything will fall into place, and when you start walking and get into your rhythm you will wonder what you worried about at all. This happened to pretty much all of us and its natural.
Happy planning and Buen Camino.

The last Chronoplus bus 14 you can take from Biarritz/Anglet Airport leaves 1721 and gets to Gare Bayonne 1800. This leaves 6 minutes to get from the bus stop to the station, buy a ticket, and board the train.

So try this: there is a train from Gare Biarritz leaving 1745 that arrives at Gare Bayonne at 1755. There is a Chronoplus bus C from the airport lv 1712/1727 to Gare Biarritz arr 1722/1737. (take a taxi if you don't make 1712)

Your timings are tight. If your flight arrives late ...

-the train may leave late ... it waits for the train from Paris.
-the train leaves Cambo les Bains at 1834 ... so you might try taking a taxi from the airport to Cambo les Bains to intercept.

Use the SNCF station sites to get oriented before you travel.

Falcon, are you trying to pick a fight with this proud Biarrot. We have beaches and a very lively area with great restaurants, tapas bars and bistros around the Marche. Admittedly I agree we are bit more expensive and there are some nice places to eat along the Nive in Bayonne but they generally serve from formula cartes.

I checked Le Petit Hotel for my arrival night, March 29, No room at the Inn, doesn't mean anything for your trip, but I was suprized at 2 months out!

Hi Gypsywind
I would go with ‘mralisn’ suggestion….stay the night in SJPdP, we did and started walking the next morning. It’s a lovely town, visited Camino office, got our shell etc and there was a great Camino buzz about the place as soon as we arrived! We had booked Caroline’s taxi from the airport, as well as others who were also starting walk next morning. I think the taxi took 6 people and it was very reasonably priced.
