Time of past OR future Camino
Start from St jean and join the Northern Way
Hi All,
I just signed in to this forum.
I am planning to bike the Camino starting September 18th or 19th 2017.
I would like to start from St Jean as well, and cross the Pyrenees but i want to join the Northern Way and bike along the coast.
Is there any recommended route to do that?
Do I head to the coast after Roncesvallles or do I reach Pamplona and head north?
Any help would be appreciated!
Zillion thanks in advance!

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Hi Daniel,
A quick search revealed that the GR11 (trans-pyrenees route or "Senda Transpirenaica") goes from Roncesvalles to the Basque coast; it seems possible to do it by bike (here's just some random website I came across with pictures! They reach Roncesvalles on day 14, and there's a pdf link to a more detailed description of what to expect as a cyclist on the final two stages):

Otherwise there's a camino path between Trinidad de Arre (just before Pamplona) and Bayonne called the "Baztanes"; you should be able to turn off at some point if you don't want to go all the way back into France, although I have no idea of bike accessibility: http://caminodesantiago.consumer.es/los-caminos-de-santiago/baztanes/

Not a cyclist myself, so others are bound to have better suggestions! :)

Hi, Daniel, and welcome.
The Baztanes and the GR11 are walking paths; I don't know about the GR11, but I've walked the Baztanes and I definitely wouldn't do it on a bike.
I did a wikiloc search -here's what it came up with:

Buen Camino, however you get there!

No personal experience, but this place gives detailed info (from your perspective, it is in reverse way). It connects with Burguete, close to Roncesvalles, and starts/ends in Irún.

In Spanish, but that was to be expected, since this is not an usual Camino.
Good ride!

For personal/non commercial use I have abstracted and translated into English sections from the French site Liason Roncesvalles-Irun which describes walking in Spain from near Roncesvalles to Irun using both local trails and in part the east-west Spanish GR11 trail.

If you wish a copy of this abstract please send me your email via a Conversation.
