I believe you pay when there. I've booked all hostels after Sarria on Booking.com and they all state to pay on the day, despite asking for my card details.

I've send numerous e-mails and tried to speak with them. They keep responding that I must go to the website and pay there before my booking can be confirmed. On the website is no place to enter credit card details. Even on booking.com you can't pay in advance. It is the only place where I had difficulty booking.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
In December I used the website listed by Peter and paid by credit card.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
I've send numerous e-mails but can't get confirmation befoe I have paid. Maybe see you along the way then.

Ultrea.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I can confirm that the booking system of the albergue in Roncesvalles works fine. I was able to start a booking for 22 April 2018, went through the various steps and got to the page where you enter your credit card details to pay. Try this link, it's already set up for English:
http://www.alberguederoncesvalles.com/index.php?idioma=2

Make sure that your browser does not do automatic translations from Spanish to English as this has caused errors in the past and made bookings impossible.

The Roncesvalles albergue is not on Booking.com - you need to use their own booking system which is new and was set up last year I think.

Thank you so much. At last I made the booking. The problem was the automatic translation.

On website click on resercpvations at top. Then click on “make reservations”heading, which does not look like a link but it is. That will bring up a form to fill out with payment method. After i fugured this out i made a reservation and at the end it said “ transaction not allowed”, which i do not understand! Better luck to you.
