I posted it yesterday on another thread but I thought it was a good idea to make a thread for it on its own to increase visibility of a relevant piece of info.
Since February 1st, there isn't anymore an overnight train from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid (and v.v.) due to a change of the route of the overnight train heading to A Coruña that doesn't go through Santiago de Compostela anymore (now it goes through Lugo and continues to Ferrol after reaching A Coruña). You can still take an overnight train to Madrid from A Coruña and from Ourense (two different branches of the same train that are joined later in Monforte de Lemos) what might be an option if you don't bother to change trains along the route (or to make a mix of bus and overnight train) but be aware it doesn't arrive to Madrid till 09:25 a.m. and it doesn't run on Saturdays.
