My wife and I are starting from Arles on Mar. 1st. The Miam Miam Dodo shows a variant (variante par la digue) following the Petit Rhone. My question does anyone know the advantage between the regular route and the variant?
The variant is slightly longer but very pleasant walking. No highway walking, etc. There can be mosquitoes at certain times of the year but it was fine in early September when I walked. If you need a snack/water along the way you will need to bring it with you.

Most do the Petit Rhone so I'm not sure it's the variant or actual route these days. We did the Petit Rhone and it gets you off the roads.

The Petit Rhone 'variant' is very nice and keeps you off the tarmac but as previously stated you will need to carry some food and drink with you. Just don't do what I did when I sat down on the bank in the shade for a snack and didn't notice that I had saton an a time ants' nest. I didn't realise until they made their presence felt; the next few days my legs looked so alarming that cars would drive by on the opposite side of the road. Enjoy your Camino. Ultreïa
